Not long ago I fell in love with a patch on a Stage 2 EX that had e piano and organ. The e piano provided the attack whereas the organ provided the dominant sustain. I've been composing on variations on this theme and will continue when I get my stage 3.
The most common variation is piano with string/pad a la Bruce Hornsby and many others.
What are other possibilities? I've also used guitar sounds for the attack aspect.

Re: Hybrid or layered patches
I also like the combination of Piano and Organ. Works well on the Electro 5.

Re: Hybrid or layered patches
You can also create "synthy" sounding patches like synthy organ, synthy strings, synthy e piano.
I think Nord stands above the rest of the competition for these kinds of sounds in a single instrument. None more so than the stage.
