Pedal bass split

Post by Relhby »

Hi everyone, i have not played C2D yet - just exploring Manual to see if it suits my needs or not.

quote from Manual: "The pedal registers can be played with a MIDI foot pedal, or by splitting
the lower manual and use the first two octaves with the pedal registers." - does it mean that first 2 octaves of lower manual will be fully replaced with only pedal bass drawbars sound, or lower manual drawbars will still sound along with pedal bass, together?

It's a true split, so only the pedals will sound on the lowest 2 octaves of the lower manual.

oh, thanks.
and no way to merge them with lower manual sound? usually all clones are able to do that.

ps: i am asking, because i have NE 4, which claims to have same organ engine as C2D. But the bass produced only with lower manual (in split mode) with 838000000 setting is really dull and too quiet.
i hope there is some workaround on C2D. For instance, on Hammond SK1 the bass is just great, even with no pedals attached. But i would really love to have 4 drawbars sets on C2D :)

Correct, there is no way to merge them. However, with the 838000000 patch, it does blend pretty well when you have the pedal drawbars to 80. The bass is so big. Personally, if I use my C2 and I'm playing organ bass, I use the synth bass sounds if I don't have my pedals, and normal B3 pedal bass if I do.

ok, but you can't blend pedal and lower manual bass, unless you use real bass pedals right? (just to be completely sure that i understood you correctly :) )

If you use pedals and press the 'pedals to great' button, it shuts those 2 octaves off to the lower manual completely. You can still use the pedals though.

What I was saying is that the 838000000 patch matches well with the 16' drawbar for the pedals. Mainly because the Nord organ engines follow the Hammond tone wheel generator. The 16' drawbar's lowest octave is reserved for the pedals. I do wish it were an option to hot rod the organ and have the 16' go all the way down on the lower manual. They give us the option to keep the 1' drawbar on with percussion, why can't my 16' go down all the way?! :keyboard2:

i think this video (and a couple of others from his channel) demonstrates how C2D bass sounds without pedals:
i think this is bass/horn 60/40 and bass eq increased.
sounds ok in headphones, but a bit dull in my speakers. What do you think guys ?

When I input pedal board to a nord stage, can I choose of any sound going inti pedals? or is it working with organ section only?

Any section, depends on the matching of MIDI Channels assigned to Sections and Pedals , anyway here you are off topic because this is the Nord C2/C2D section and discussion ;)

I find myself reasonably satisfied with the C2D split implementation. I started out using synth bass with the Pluck set to 6. The level of the bass could then be adjusted with the two pedal DBs, and with EQ could be made quite prominent through a custom 122. However, this proved to be inadequate for the group I am with now (guit, dr, sax, bone, org/bass). I looked around for a bass ROMpler and bought a 90's era Roland M-BD1 module and a MIDI Solutions Event Processor Plus. The EPP was programmed to adapt C2D patch changes to control selected patch changes in the M-BD1. I programmed about a dozen usable bass sounds but actually use only 4 or 5. Also, and probably more importantly, I run the bass through a separate bass amplifier.
