Playing MIDI through C2

Post by stgac2016 »

I use my C2 in the Baroque Pipe Organ mode every Sunday for 2 services. I direct the choirs too and sometimes play and direct at the same time. Given how our music "area" is set up it is not optimal for the choir to see me at the console. I'd like to be able to create a MIDI sequence on Finale for some of our choir anthems and have the C2 play it instead of me. Is this possible? I know it is on an Allen or Rodgers with their add-on hardware. My thought is that once the sequence is created I can pop a thumb drive with the sequence into my Mac which is then connected to the C2 via a MIDI interface hit play and away we go or is this completely a crazy idea?

Not at all crazy -- of course the Nord is capable of being played via midi sequence from a computer.

i'm wondering that when I connect my C2D to my mac and I wanted to use it with Logic pro x (via new track, external instrument). Sounds come in fine, but when I hit record, no midi data is being recorded. and mac doesn't recognize C2D via it's USB port. am I doing something wrong? electro 4, prophet 12 are working fine as soon as I connect it via USB, but C2D doesn't really work yet.

are there any way to do this? tried to download usb driver but nord web site has it only for windows, not mac osx.

No driver needed for Mac. Nord C2D does not possess Midi-over-USB capability. Needs to be connected via traditional 5-pin DIN midi ports. You'll want a USB-midi interface for that.

I happen to use M-Audio UNO, but there are many brands which are equivalent. Have you tried reversing the midi connections? Often times those devices are labeled in an unusual way. I've owned this device for years and years and still manage to connect it incorrectly from time to time...

I use Mio USB to midi cable. I tried cheap brand but it wouldn't pass sysex. I guess you get what you pay for.

Thanks. I found out that the midi usb cable I bought, midi in-out tip is not working properly. It works but i have to plug midi in to Midi out port on my keyboard(nord, prophet) and vice versa.

I am gonna get dedicated midi interface soon.

Yes on midi cables almost always "out" gets plugged into "in" and visa-versa. If you think about it, it makes sense you want the output of midi device go to the input on your cable.
