Can I really not carry over a previous sound!!!!?????

This is the right place if your topic concerns different Nord Keyboards, you are not sure which one is the right one for you, etc.

Can I really not carry over a previous sound!!!!?????

Post by ianketterer »

Okay, I purchased my Nord Electro 5d after having a Motif for years. On my motif I could just hold my sustain pedal down while switching between patches and the previous sound would carryover until I released my sustain pedal. From what I can tell and what I have been reading online, Nords do not do this, and furthermore, when I switch patches on the Nord, it's not even instantaneous, there is a slight delay, which makes it almost impossible to perform with. It's extremely sad to me that Nord has not figured this out. These keyboards are WAY too expensive for this feature not to have been implemented by now!!

I am just HOPING I am completely wrong and there is some magical thing I need to switch to have this feature turned on or something. It's so unbelievably frustrating.

Can anyone help me!!!????

Thanks guys. (sorry for the rant)

Hi - sorry to say, this feature is not available.
Unbelievable in this times, no workaround.
Kind regards,
Helmut

I just can't even believe this honestly. I never even bothered to look into this before making the switch to a Nord because it was just something I (wrongfully) assumed was build in. It honestly makes this thing pathetically useless, with all it's onboard reverb and what not. I am just beyond frustrated! Thanks for the info.

Go buy something else if you find the Nords "pathetically useless".
By the way, all manuals of Clavia's instruments are available for download on nordkeyboards.com, so you can see exactly what you get, and what you don't.

Your comment isn't helpful, but thanks. I'm glad you're a fanboy, I just think this feature should be included with every keyboard when you're spending the kind of money we're spending on these things. Had I known it did not have this feature, I honestly probably would not have boughten it. It shouldn't even be called a "feature" it should just be the standard/norm.

To be fair, calling a piece of equipment that many of us own and love "pathetically useless" isn't helpful either, nor is it accurate. Personally I've never had a need for one patch to sustain as I switch to another, but I can see how it could be a nuisance.

I'd like to know what single instrument can do this. If you find it, I'll bet there are at least 10 things I will find that the Stage 2 EX can do that the other instrument cannot. Or that the other instrument is considerably more expensive. Or both. For me, If I have to sustain one sound while switching to another, I use a separate instrument for the 2nd sound.
Keyboards:
  • NS2 EX Compact 73
  • Hammond SK2
  • Roland VCombo VR-09
  • Roland A800-Pro
  • Behringer Motor 49
  • Alesis Q88

You should have given it a good test drive, no ones' fault but your own, coming in here just to trash it and call everyone fanboys is not going to get you many helpful suggestions.

Kronos. Fantom G. Kurzweil PC3.

The Motif series, despite what the original poster claims, CAN NOT do this, either.

What the Motif can do is seamlessly switch/blend between various elements of a single multitimbral patch.

The Nord stage can do this also, albeit limited to two instances of organ, two of the synth, and two pianos.

The patch structure is designed completely differently, but as with Motif, within the limits of that structure, you can blend and morph.
