Electro 2 : Which Swell pedal and about lower manual

Postby kshim » 15 Sep 2011, 07:59

HELLO GUYS!

I've been using Nord electro 3 and sold it due to financial issues(bought a hammond organ this summer) and I bought electro 2 73keys again for gigs ...

(I know.. it was insane.)

anyway, I'm looking to buy Swell pedal (Volume pedal for Organ), which one will be good?

I'm thinking to buy one of these ;

Roland EV-5, Boss FV500L, YAMAHA FC7(this is not working well?)

and one more question!

How can I use midi controller as lower manual?

should I just plug midi out (midi controller) and plug midi in(electro)? if so, how can I change the sound on upper and lower manual? it seems impossible to me... um...

thanks in advance.

Btw, I really liked electro series. Rhodes sounds good, Organ is pretty good too. (getting in to more organ stuff now!)

Hello kshim,
Welcome to the forum!
I actually have way more time gigging the Electro and Electro 2.
The EV-5 was always MY best choice of pedals.
You should check to see if your NE2 has the latest OS and piano sounds as they have been improved.
http://www.nordkeyboards.com/main.asp?t ... &osdwn=osw

For controlling the NE2 from a midi keyboard as the lower manual, make sure the midi controller is on the same midi channel as the lower manual setting of the NE2 "Shift+ Program 2" this should be a different channel number than the main midi channel "Shift+ Program 1"

The manual details this on pages 22 and 34.

Which Hammond organ did you buy?
Did you also buy a Leslie?

Pics?

Cheers, Hanon

Thanks Hanon _CTS, yeah I'll upload some pics later.

I got the Hammond A-102, without Leslie cause my room is so small and cozy.... (also didn't have enough money)

it modified to use with regular amp, it has quarter inch input (which is good and bad at the same time.) and Reverb unit is not working so I'm thinking to buy Reverb pedal for

my Hammond and electro 2. what should i buy? I'm thinking to get Lexicon LXP-1 (it has good reverb... some of my friends who play guitar use it and they love it)

or should I get just one of those guitar pedals?

Hello kshim,
Congratulations on your vintage Hammond purchase.
I think every keyboard should have owned at least one in their career.
I've owned many Hammonds, the one that I owned the longest was an A-100.

As for your idea of getting the Lexicon LXP-1:
That's old school thinking as well as an old school box. If memory serves correctly, the LXP-1 is from the '80s.

The first question is budget: How much do you have to spend on Reverb?
But additional concerns are what other effects would you like to mix in with Reverb?

If it were me: In addition to Reverb, I'd want a good tape delay simulator, and good phaser "the Who's: Won't get fooled again" and probably some type of rotary speaker simulator.
Budget will be the biggest concern, followed very closely by the number and types of additional effects that you would also want.

I wouldn't choose a multi-effect that's intended for guitar players as there's probably going to be a number of features that you'll have no use for, unless you also have and play guitar.

I think once you post back with that information, you'll have droves of members with excellent recommendations.

Cheers, Hanon

Yeah, I wouldn't choose multi effect too.

Thanks Hanon.

I'm thinking to add only Reverb for now, because I play latin and Jazz gig (mostly Jazz) w/ Fender Rhodes sound only for now.

also learning organ and doing couple of jam session a week(not doing gig yet, maybe someday ;).

I'll spend less than 200$ for reverb unit, what would you recommend?

On the low end you could get something like this:

A bit further up the price range there's this:

thanks,

I sent a email to guy who sells Line 6 Verbzilla in local store(pretty good deal, he is selling 70$, 50% off the regular price), so if this worked out, I'll test it and review it here.

oh, and I was googlin for swell pedal and found this web site :

http://nordelectro.pbworks.com/w/page/9 ... ion_Pedals

it should be helpful to everybody cause

what I found is

Swell pedal that work with Nord Electro Series is ;

Roland EV-5, EV-7, Boss FV500L, M-Audio pedal, Proel pvp-16l (only sells in AU, I think)

and others don't work with Electro series.

What I found is if you go to the website, they sell a small tip that can change the polarity of the yamaha FC7 so you can use it.

I ordered YAMAHA FC7 because it was cheapest one but also all the reviewer say it's really good!

(Roland EV-5 - 70$, Boss FV500L - 110$, it seems built like tank, if I had money I would grab this, M-Audio one - 25~35$, reviewer says build quality is not that good,

Proel pvp-16l - 60$ + international shipping, looks good but I don't want to pay extra international shipping, Yamaha FC7 - 40~50$)

I'll post about pedal and reverb as soon as I get it, with pictures :keyboard:
