Piano 88 OS crashed during update

Post by Pema2 »

I have an original Piano 88. While updating the Piano OS to v1.48 my computer crashed or went to sleep and the update stopped midway.

When I turn on the Piano now I get the message: NORD PIANO, then "Ready to Receive"

When I try running the v1.48 update program again I get these messages on the update app:

1. Your current OS is v1.48
2. After pressing the Update button I get: Freeing space for update...
3. Sending update...
4. ERROR: Timeout: No reply from synth...
5. Unexpected CAckXfrDate message. State seems broken

BWT, When I open Sound Manager I get this message: The connected Nord Piano (V0.52) does not support required protocols: FileTransfer protocol is not supported.

Also, I got the same result when I tried updating after starting up the Piano while holding down the Shift and Store buttons.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Jim

Pablo called after I left a message on the Nord site. I ran the tests he recommended. He thought the flash drive probably needs to be replaced and said this was an unusual problem.

What a great guy he was to work with; patient, knowledgeable, and generous with his time.

Hi Pema2,

I have exactly the same issue. Could you please share with me how you finally managed to solve this issue?

Thank you!

I also have this problem. Tried to perform update to 1.48 on MacOS Sierra. No crash or power failure but keyboard is now "bricked". Have tried short USB cable and shift source reset. No dice. Working perfectly before update with 1.28.

UPDATE:

Spoke with Staffan in Sweden this morning - very helpful, great guy! He suggested I try previous MacOS versions of the installer or try updating from a PC.

- I tried versions 1.44 and 1.46 for MacOS - same problem.
- I then tried using the PC update version 1.48 from inside Oracle Virtual Box running Windows 8.1 (the free browser test version from Microsoft) with the latest Clavia USB driver installed.

UPDATE worked perfectly and my keyboard is useable again!!

For Dev guys at Nord - The three MacOS versions I tested failed on two different installs of Sierra (Mac Pro and Mac Book Pro)

Happy to be able to get back to my project on a deadline.

I am having the exact same problem = error message "Unexpected CAckXfrData Message. State seems broken" on my Nord Piano 1 - I tried updating the piano OS from V1.44 to V1.50 via USB while running MacOS El Capitan 10.11.6

I don't have a PC - only a Mac so I will have to wait until I can get one of my friends comes by with a Windows laptop to try to fix it.

At least someone else has encountered this problem.. I hope I can solve it with Windows. The earlier versions of the pianoOS aren't posted on the Nord website, so there's no other option for me to try except calling tech support..
