Re: NEW OS for STAGE 2 and STAGE 2 EX
I guess we now can use the Factory bank of the NS2EX on the NS2 without any issues?
Somewhere Nord did mention that these samples were smaller, but retained their quality...

Thanks for that. What settings did you use for the 1st and 2nd plot?Merlimau wrote:Yes, it seems they stretched the velocity curve. I played 2 times the same piece as similar as possible and see the difference.

Re: NEW OS for STAGE 2 and STAGE 2 EX
We can use the samples but not the full NS2 EX Factory Backup, so this means manually putting the samples in the right locations (unless Nord releases an updated Factory Bank for the NS2 too)Graspieper wrote:I guess we now can use the Factory bank of the NS2EX on the NS2 without any issues?

EDIT: or unless now also the Synth programs associate the Samples by name and no longer by location... which it does!!

Re: NEW OS for STAGE 2 and STAGE 2 EX
Thanks, yes it seems that the curve covers a wider range in the scaling.
I just installed the new OS too (it was quick and without problems).
I like the new velocity curve specially for the acoustic pianos and for some of the Rhodes (although they seem to 'bark' less than with the other dynamics unless you hit they keys really hard). For the DX Full Tines is great as the sample is quite bright already.
I was not so impressed when using the Clav samples, though. It seems to mute them a bit too much. I prefer the Dynamics 3 for the Clav, but of course having the choice is great.
Thanks Clavia!

Yes, it does mean that the newer samples are now compatible with NS2 and can be loaded. More on the new samples coming from Nord soon. But using the samples from that backup and using the actual backup are two different things, as Max pointed out.maxpiano wrote:We can use the samples but not the full NS2 EX Factory Backup, so this means manually putting the samples in the right locations (unless Nord releases an updated Factory Bank for the NS2 too)Graspieper wrote:I guess we now can use the Factory bank of the NS2EX on the NS2 without any issues?

There is no reason to want/need to load samples to the same locations as NS2EX...

"NSMP format 2: Supporting Unpitched and Silent strokes."
What does it mean?
Thanks.

Experimented extensively tonight with the new velocity curves.Mr_-G- wrote:Thanks, yes it seems that the curve covers a wider range in the scaling.

Impressed and satisfied.
The new curve is definitely aimed at the acoustic pianos, and rightly so - the previous curves lacked in dynamics and didn't do full justice to the gorgeous Clavia pianos.
Now there's definitely more dynamic range: the pianissimos are way easier to play, and you can really feel the change in timbre as you use more force.
On the other end, this means that the pianos sound a bit more "muffled" when dynamics are not employed extensively (the classic quiet background comping stuff).
For example, the Bright Grand loses much of its "bells" and has a very balanced tone (is probably my absolute favourite with the new curve), while the Imperial Grand now is definitely dark, almost sombre.
Also with clavs and EPs, much more force is required to make them bark as usual.
I think I will keep the standard curve for background comping and standard rock-funky stuff where dynamics are not so essential, while the new curve will be priceless for jazz and the occasional classic stuff (which I almost never play, fortunately for the listeners

Overall I think it's a great update, now there's a real option to make the best out of every piano sound in every playing situation!

Re: NEW OS for STAGE 2 and STAGE 2 EX
Good question... I interpret this is meaning that a NSMP instrument can be made up of pitched samples (e.g. Bass guitar on E2 to C4), unpitched (e.g. different drums on each key from C5 up) and unassigned keys (e.g. nothing happens between C4 and C5 to prevent accidentsGigikjarr wrote:"NSMP format 2: Supporting Unpitched and Silent strokes."

This is just a guess, and TBH I assumed this was already possible - just never tried doing it!
And now for something completely different...

Re: NEW OS for STAGE 2 and STAGE 2 EX
Did you find some really new Sounds in the new library? It seems to me - there are many new names for the same samples as in NS2?? Or are there some spectakular samples, that I did'nt find? Something amazing like the nice DXFulltines in Piano-Library, maybe....
Sorry for bad english, I hope you guess what I mean...
ciao Kristian
