NLA1 patch; String Encounters

Post by Marlowes »

Hej!

String Encounters of the Second Kind
Spooky strings, Polymoog style

I watched Gary Newmans "Cars" on the Tube and got inspired.
My aim was not to nail his sound exactly, but give it a more modern touch.
Arturia Spark drums, Don Solaris Minimoog bass, two Blofeld ambient tracks;
(sorry, I forgot to mute the metronome, but who cares, really?) <= replaced 2015-02-03/M.

Recipe
Osc: saw, detune = 2 of the same, same octave but one pitch will vary, LFO AMT 2.5, LFO tri 5.0 - gives that swirling almost seasick feeling
Filter: HP, kb track 1, freq 2.5, res 6.0 - should become a bit nasal, almost vocal, adjust a bit more?
Amp env: A 3.0, D full=sust, R 5.0 - slow sweeping, avoid unison which can make the synth run out of voices
Phaser 1.1 - more creepy
Reverb 3.0 - but avoid chorus
Delay tempo 612, dry/wet 5.0, fb 1 - stacking the sound

Sounds great. The FX on the A1 sure are nice.

Hey Michael, I wanted to thank you for continuing to post your patches. I finally got my NLA1 on Friday (first synth ever), and thanks to all of your "recipes" and some YouTube videos, I was creating my own patches within just a few hours. I play in a cover band and have already created 5 performance patches that sound almost exactly like the original parts.

Again, thanks for your recipes - which were really my tutorials. I hope more people use this forum to post their classic sounds. I know I will once I get a little better :)

Ryan
