PDS 10 or 2 stand

Post by Jroen »

I'm about to purchase the Nord Drum 2 with the pads and am looking for a stand to go with the unit.
The manual suggests the Roland PDS 10 stand but for half the price i can get a Roland PDS 2 stand, the difference is that the PDS 2 stand comes without a mounting head.
But with the Nord Drum unit there is a universal mounting head, my question is, is the universal mounting head compatible with the Roland PDS 2 stand?

Can anyone confirm?

TIA!

Hi!

The PDS-10 is quite expensive indeed.

The PDS-10 in the picture has a mount holding a base plate that is only compatible with Roland devices,
you can't use that plate for the Nord Drum2/Pad, in stead you will have to use the 'stand holder' that comes with the Nord Drum2 and Pad,

So when you buy a PDS-10 you can trash the Roland base plate, the mount is the essential bit, and the PDS-2 doesn't seem to have such a mount to hold the Nord Pad or Nord Drum2 'stand holder',

You can replicate the PDS-10 with Pearl stuff: have a look at the solution suggested by Pablo here: http://www.norduserforum.com/nord-drum- ... t5717.html

However, that particular Pearl stand is no longer available, perhaps the Pearl C-830 is also suitable [<Edit : No, it is not, see below posts of 20 July 2018] - however, when I add it all up, the replica becomes more expensive than the PDS-10... :(

I once took a straight cymbal stand, removed the upper section, to put the ND2 with its mount right on top, (disadvantage = can't adjust the angle) and I used the AX25-L to attach the Nord Pad

Perhaps you should visit your local music store, ask the drums/hardware department for a creative but not too expensive solution,

the diameter of the Nord stand holder is 23mm according to the manual

Cheers,
Albert

Thanks for the info Albert,

i ordered the Pearl C-830 stand with the AX28 clamp, 20 euro cheaper than the Roland PDS-10 stand.
For the pad ordered the AX-25L clamp.
Now waiting for it to be delivered :keyboard2:

I bought the Pearl C-830 stand and the AX28 clamp. I had a spare no name brand stand lying around (which is unusable since one of the wing nut holes is stripped) and used the top part of that stand instead of the one on the C-380 since the C-830 has a different design than the C-790. The no-name stand top + C-830 base and the AX-28 rigged based on Albert's guide works like a charm! Got the C-830 and AX28 combo for less than the cost of the Gibraltar equivalent too so I saved some money!

Hi whitecat,

Thanks for the update! The good thing about the C830 is that it has ‘double braced’ legs, but for the above mentioned modification, the cymbal tilter of the C830 is actually not suitable..hmm sorry I suggested this stand! Luckily you had an alternative part that you could use. I edited my original post above...

Cheers,
Albert
