Slot Split

Post by sozomuse »

Hello, I am a new user of a Nord Stage 2 Compact and I am generally happy with it. It's been played a few times live and received good feedback from the band and audience. Organizing the factory patches and splitting instruments have been the first order of business to get up and running, and this is where my question lies - can two programs be split within a single Slot? Specifically two programs (strings and horns) from one instrument (Synth).

I'm able to split two programs (organ and horns) from two sections (organ and synth) but end up layering instead of splitting each time I try.

(Yes, I've read the manual:--)

Thanks for your help, Roger Mashburn

A single slot can have one synth, one piano, and one organ, or any combination. You cannot have two of any of the same sound generators in a single slot.

I often wish the architecture allowed for more synths as well, as I use those sounds more than piano and organ.

I was afraid that might be the case. The work around will be using both Slots for a split then.

+1 - Stings, synth leads/pads, horns etc. are used a bit more than the organ and the piano is a distant third in my use.

Thank you DJKeys for clearing this up!

Then, sorry to say, but you guys probably bought the wrong instrument; Nord Stage was born is primarily s a Piano/El. piano and organ emulator, the synth section being a bonus and intended mainly to emulate monotimbral Vintage synths, mellotrons, string machines, etc.

If you use mainly synth sounds you should at least integrate the NS2 with an expander (e.g. a Motif XS rack) and/or a PC/Mac with Virtual instruments, which can be easily integrated using the NS2 Extern section.

A slight note to this: you can have 2 different organ settings in one slot. Using the "preset" button to have 2 different organ settings (not 2 different organ types!).

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Actually, Max, I am very happy with the Stage 2. I have found that its synth section can actually do most everything a standard two oscillator synth can do, and have not really run into any programming limitations for any of the pop/rock music I play. I have the Access Virus up top if necessary, but for most situations, play with a single board.

 Love my Stage 2.

If you need split samples, you can make your own with the sample editor. It is easier than it looks

Stand: K&M Spider Pro and Hercules X Stands

;) and I see you also have a Wavestation AD in your setup so tou are pretty well covered

Sorry if I was a bit straight, but some people expect the NS2 to be a workstation (which is not) so it is better to bring clarity and have the right approach to it. :)

Always a good idea to err on the side of information.

The Stage 2 is not a workstation but is probably one of the top gigging boards out there.
