I had always thought that was a soprano sax, I have trouble with hearing the difference.

My fault, you are right, it's a Soprano Sax.
Just the other day I saw Sting live with Berlin Symphonic Orchestra (was quite dark on stage) and thought it was a clarinet, but again was a soprano sax...anyhow, great sound!!
