TL;DR: I made an app with which you can trigger dynamic pedal noises using a switch-type sustain pedal. I'm looking for testers who will get the app free of charge without any limitations, to see if it works on the entire Nord pedal-noise-capable line-up (Piano, Grand, and Stage).

Hello Nord forum users,

After having browsed this forum as a guest user for all kinds of information over the past couple of years, I now have registered, as I have something to share.

What?
I have made an app that allows the triggering of dynamic pedal noises with a simple switch-type sustain pedal (so a binary switch, non-continuous pedal). That means you do not require a separate and expensive Triple Pedal unit anymore for that added bit of piano realism. I have done this by reverse-engineering the pedal noise triggering algorithm used in the Nord Piano 88.

Currently, the app is only available on Android (7+), check the link below. I'm working on porting the app to iOS, which will take a few more weeks.

Testers wanted
The app has been tested with my own first generation Nord Piano 88 as standalone, as well as in combination with a synthesizer (Yamaha MODX) employed as MIDI controller to which a sustain pedal is connected. I need to verify that the pedal noise algorithm of the Nord Piano 88 is still the one used in more recent instruments. I'm expecting the same algorithm to be present in all but (perhaps) the Stage 4, which might have a changed algorithm due to the introduction of the Triple Pedal 2.
I'd like to ask for testers who are willing to test it on other Nord instruments that are capable of dynamic pedal noises, which, to the best of my knowledge, are the ones listed in the table below (if I missed something, let me know!).

For this, I will be handing out app promotion codes on a first-come-first-served basis with which you can install the app completely free of charge, and use it without any time or feature restrictions. It will be one code per listed instrument below.

What you will need for testing

• your Nord
• a switch-type sustain pedal
• an Android smartphone or tablet capable of USB-OTG (On The Go)
• a USB-cable connecting the USB-To-Host on the back of your Nord (the square-ish connector) to the USB-port on your Android device

How to join
Post a message in this topic indicating which Nord you can test (important: verify the OS version!) and which type of pedal you are using (if known: brand and model).
Posting a reply here will keep the first-come-first-served transparent, as I will be going over the topic from top to bottom. Eligible users that are the first to post a message willing to test an instrument that has not been tested before, will receive a code via DM.

To redeem the promotion code, do the following:

• Open the Google Play app
• At the top right, tap the profile icon
• Tap Payments & subscriptions and then Redeem gift code
• Enter the code

And then?
Install the app and be the first to test it on your Nord model!

What I want to know is whether you can connect to your Nord instrument and whether the app allows you to trigger dynamic pedal noises by pressing a switch-type sustain pedal.
If it works: great! Post a message here, then I will update the table above so that everybody is informed.
If it doesn't work: that's a pity. I would like to know what the problem is. If the MIDI connections are all made properly, I might need to add a new pedal noise algorithm to support that particular instrument. We'll probably be communicating via DM to not pollute this topic with too much debug-talk.

Note that this test is mainly done to verify the app's compatibility with Nord's line-up. However, if you have other remarks, questions, tips, etc. regarding the app and its usability, I would also be happy to hear about them.

Again, like I wrote in a different topic: I'm sorry if any of my posts offended you or anybody else, that was not my intention. I wanted to help out users who have had similar but different questions in those other topics by notifying that there is a way to solve their problem different from the solutions already offered. Some of the topics may be a bit older, but getting pedal noises without NTP is still a current and active issue for many in varying kinds of situations with varying rigs. Also, some posts had incorrect information that I could now correct for the benefit of all due to my digging into the subject. If the topic starters are not interested in their old topic, it will be buried in new forum posts soon enough I guess.

Is there really nobody interested in getting an app for free that unlocks a cool feature of their Nord without spending a lot of money for an overpriced triple pedal unit? The only thing I'm asking in return is to let me know whether the app works for you on your Nord.

Great! I have ported the app to iOS and will test this week. If everything works fine on my iPhone and iPad, I'll submit the app to the App Store. My previous experience is that Apple is quite slow in processing and accepting new apps, so I guess it will take another two weeks or so from now. I'll let you know.

Testing the Stage 4 will be interesting, as it uses a new sustain/triple pedal and (therefore?) possibly a new algorithm.

I would like to test it with my Piano 5. I've the USB.OTG and the printer usb cable. Where do get the app from? Thank you.
