Can't send banks to P3?

Post by Tenookey »

Hi,

I'm trying to load the Albin Westerlind kit banks onto the Nord and I'm having no luck.
In the Drum 3 Manager I am connected and have no problems taking kit banks off the drum, I have updated the OS to v1.24.
When I click "Test" it comes up with "Ready To Roll". So everything looks and acts like it's fine. It's only when I try to send the new kit bank that it goes wrong and I get the message "Send Bank Failed: No Reply From Drum".
Can anyone offer any help?

Thanks!

Is there any Memory Protect switch on the 3P?

Hi,

-I’m not sure what the test actually does, but it sounds like the software is expecting a message back from the unit after the bank is sent, which is either not sent or received, do you have both MIDI IN and OUT connected?

-Memory protect can be switched off in the system settings [Pr.OF]

-You were able to update the unit which suggests that your MIDI interface is capable of sending larger amounts of data without a problem (unlike some very cheaply made interfaces)

Hi, I'm also having issues receiving banks to my P3; I have successfully updated my device, and even backed up my user banks no problem. However, when I choose to send bank (under KIT in drum manager) I get the error message, "send bank failed: send failed: busy"

I have gone into my system settings on the P3 and selected Pr OF. Is there a setting within "MIDI" I am not properly, well, setting?

It should be noted, I have the GREEN LIGHT, and READY TO ROLL in drum manager.

My goal here, is to restore the factory presets in Bank A, as I overwrote a couple when I first got the P3.

Thank you

UPDATE / RESOLVED

I was able to resolve my issue; I'm not entirely sure what was happening, but I'm guessing it was the cables I was using (I never switched, and they eventually worked, but I just have this feeling). I kept resetting my Mac, and each time I booted up Nord Drum 3 Manager, the progress bar would advance a little further when sending the bank files to my 3P (this is why I believe the issue was ultimately because of my cables).

For those who are curious what settings I used: under SYSTEM, I have Pr.OF and PL.1; under MIDI, I have Lo.On, GL.10, Ch.1, nt.60, PC.Sr, CC.Sr, SE.nd (*this setting in particular I left flashing in all of the successful attempts, by hitting the "drum kit select' key; the manual mentions this for backing up Banks to a PC, but not for restoring Banks to the P3, but I tried anyway with success)

I kept trying, because I was able to update my 3P (which requires MIDI in), so I was sure it had to be something else. I think if you got this error message, AND you were unable to update, AND you tried these SYSTEM / MIDI settings, the issue is likely your USB MIDI interface.

Good luck to everyone!

Same issue, tried 3 different USB Midi interfaces, all of which can receive kits and drums from the Nord3P, but nothing can be sent.
Test is fine - ready to go.
Write protect is off, setup is identical to what other users have suggested, it simply will not receive drums or kits.

Hi gallipolirecords,

Strange indeed, I was wondering, could it be that being in a menu, or editing sound parameters hinders writing to the memory? Or could it be on the computer end, are you on Mac, Windows? Quite some people were complaining about the software on Mac, but in those cases it didn't seem to work at all..

Cheers,
Albert

Could anyone use the Nord Drum Manager on Mac?

I get the infamous error where the handshake is impossible, it doesn’t detect the device.
Any workaround to upload presets?

For the record, the message is "No reply from the drum. Please check MIDI setup".

It used to work with the same interface when I was on Linux. I even succeeded on Windows, same gear.
I can trigger the ND3p from my computer and monitor the MIDI both ways. I'm sending and receiving only on channel 10 (channel 10 also on the ND3p of course).

EDIT: I found the solution. So if you're on Mac with the same issue:

Open Audio & MIDI setup > double click on IAC Driver and make sure to tick the option The device is connected.
After you close that option window, the box IAC Driver will be On (Red colour) and the handshake will work.
