Nord 3 Repair Specialists Needed

Post by Kooljohn74 »

Hi,

My Nord 3 has been out of commission for the past 6/7 years. It has the common issue where you press the on button, it begins to boot up, you get to OS 1.2 on the screen and it then turns off and begins the sequence again, never actually getting to being 'on' and ready for use. The other issue is with the pitch bend not working but I think that will be straight forward as we swapped that with my Nord Lead 1. At least I hope it's straight forward.

I tried someone here in Ireland but they have been unsuccessful so far in finding out what the issue is and how this can be fixed.

I've also contacted 'Sound Technology in UK but they aren't willing to look at it as it is discontinued and they can't source parts and aren't confident in finding a longterm solution to repairing the Nord Lead 3, according to their email.

At this stage I am beginning to wonder if I should give up on the idea of ever getting my Nord 3 back in working order, which is depressing to think as a) it cost a lot of money b) it is a fine synthesizer (when working)

I am based in Ireland but would be happy to send it anywhere in Europe if I could get it fixed. Does anyone have anyone they would recommend that knows how to handle Nord Lead 3's?

Help please :(

I have seen these units fail in this manner in the past. Remarkably, the same set of symptoms can be produced by a variety of different failure modes. Thus, the actual underlying problem could be any one of half a dozen different things. Some online research will reveal that many people automatically ascribe responsibility for this to the power supply, but that is not necessarily a reliable diagnosis.

In the USA it occasionally happened that instruments sent in to AM&S (US distributor) would be forwarded on to Sweden for service there. While it is true that complete replacement circuit boards are no longer available for the NL3, I think it is likely that Sweden would agree to have a look at it and attempt a repair. In my experience, they are very gentle with their pricing for these services, but because Sound Tech has an exclusive contract with them, they would almost certainly require that you send to the unit to Sound Tech who would then forward to Nord in Sweden. Your best bet may be to submit tech support request via Nord website outlining the entire situation. And/or contact Sound Tech again detailing the thought of forwarding to Stockholm.

Bless, Pablo

Hi Guys,
Did you ever get anywhere with sending this in to Clavia? I'm in the same boat. My Nord Lead 3 won't boot up anymore.
