Nord Electro 6D 61 Keys
Hi,
Does anybody know anything about the rubber contacts on these boards?
I have a Nord Electro 6D 61 with banks of keys that don't trigger in piano mode. They trigger in synth mode and they communicate MIDI, but not well.
I pulled it apart to clean it because a few keys weren't triggering and when I put it back together, there's more bad keys than before.
Could I have simply put the rubber contacts on upside down or are they symmetrical? I didn't pay attention to it when I did it, but some of the photos make them look assymetrical. It's a bit of a process to disassemble it again and I'm not sure if that would matter anyway?

Hi, there is only one way for the switches to go in. One contact is higher than the other.
Edit: sorry perhaps this was not clear. There are some pins and holes that need to be aligned so the switches are in the right position.

Contacts are asimmetrical, compare the orientation of the octaves that work to the ones which do not work and fix the latter.linkvsshadowlink wrote:Hi,

Re: Nord Electro 6D 61 Keys
Thanks for the help everyone. I'm down to one bad key. The contact point looks messed up. Anybody know if those are easily replaceable or am I going to need a new PCB? I'm adding a photo of what I'm talking about. The fourth from the right, the black section.

The PCB-side contacts are not replaceable, but I suggest you try to clean the defective one using isopropyl alcohol, it may be sufficient to restore its conductivity.
Of course also ensure the rubber strip is well placed, overall and in that zone particularly (look at the other side of PCB and check the rubber pins are out and even).

Yes I had liquid damage to that black rectangular surface and just cleaned it, reassembled and it works fine. Salt water was the liquid and it definitely messed up the black surface a little.

Thanks everyone. I'll give that a try. That whole PCB is only about $80, so worse case scenario I can just replace it.

For what it's worth, I have read that the eraser of a pencil can work cleaning it. Of course you have to do it gently, and at your own risk.
