C2D trumpet stop

Post by tacitus »

I’ve just had to upgrade my C2D to 1.12 from 1.1 when I got it out and I’d lost the Farfisa (no sweat) and pipe organ (disaster!). Restored everything but the pipe samples disappeared and a replacement file was sent to me by Nord.

It’s all working 100% again now, but although the filename says the soundset is v1.0, I can’t help feeling the trumpet 8’ stop has been toned down a bit. Does anyone know if this has, or might have, happened?

Also, does anybody know which organ was sampled for the C2/C2D? I’m sure I’ve seen it mentioned somewhere but can’t find the reference.

I have to say thar having had my C2D in store since Covid started, I’m loving it all over again. I’m going to try using it as my stage keyboard, and derive piano sounds from Korg Module on my iPad. I just remembered the trumpet being a bit more “nuclear” in scale than it is now.

Hello, I don't think "sampled" is the word, the C2D uses physical modeling for all its organs, so could be that some parameter of the model of that register (trumpet 8') has changed across releases but i may also just be your memory playing tricks on you (sound "colors" memory is like actual colors', difficult to have it 100% precise)

The only way to check if what you hear is actually a deviation or just a feeling of yours is to find another C2D owner and ask him/her to record the same register (in the best "pure" way possible) so that you can make a comparison (or viceversa, you record yours and ask other users to compare)

I thought of getting hold of a comparison but not sure how I’d verify what’s actually what. I’ll ask Nord, but don’t expect miracles there. They were great at getting me the samples out, though. And they are samples; all the other organs ARE modelled, but the pipe sounds were sampled from a church organ, in Sweden or Denmark I believe.

I find the C2 pipe organ nicer to play than a computer, and in a real space it sounds pretty good.

You are totally right, I forgot the Pipes are sampled, apologies.

I am not so much into Pipe organs (though I played some real ones when I was younger), on a PC I have the Hauptwerk (free version) and I find it impressive, probably more for a recording or home/headphone usage than live, but nevertheless enjoyable.

I was looking at Hauptwerk on and off for ages, but once got my C2D I didn’t think it was worth going into. Not that I’m a great organist, or keyboard player at all, but the C2D pipe sounds scratched that itch and I can practice at home of I’m asked to play in church (not often).
