Wurly EP200 Noises and Hum

Postby vcfvca » 05 Sep 2022, 13:21

The Factory Wurlitzer 1 is very good but if you would like to add some character use these files to add some noise. One is just the hum from the EP200 the other is the acoustic noises that you hear if you take the lid off. Use Dynamics and the Filter then just use the sample level control for more or less.

Can you share the parameters of the NE6 programs ?
Unfortunately, the Viewer doesn't decypher this format yet :)

I clearly remember fighting and losing the battle against the hum my model 200 Wurlitzer made. I tried everything, including shielding the AC power cable and lining the whole inner surface of the cabinet with the heaviest aluminum foil I could find. Nothing worked, especially when playing in a bar that had neon beer signs on the walls or florescent lighting. I would have been ecstatic if someone could have magically made that hum DISAPPEAR.

Here we are 50 years later and now someone can magically make that hum APPEAR.

Ain't progress wonderful!?

I could not agree more with wtibbit. I suppose that we should be expecting patches for 60Hz and 50Hz hum as well?
The pedal noise is another curious one... piano manufacturers have spent lots of brain power in their designs to minimise it as much as possible and here we are paying a high extra to reproduce it.
I think that the hammer sound of e-epianos and the click of organs are part of the sound itself, but hum is just background noise due to some bad design choices. :wtf:

That's hilarious! :D

By the way couldn't the same thing be said about the key click of the Hammond? They tried desperately to remove it back then and now modern manufacturers strive to implement the true "key click experience".

Absolutely!

Note the Decay.Release settings for the HUM sample - this is to give the impression the hum is there all the time. It's set to a low level about 9 o'clock.

The Decay/Release setting for Acoustic Noise should be 12 o'clock. Here are some photos.
