Create sound for Cher song "All or Nothing"

Postby NordRita » 26 Jul 2022, 18:54

There is a special effect sort of sound on the song All or Nothing sung by Cher that for a lack of better description sounds like a clavichord being dropped ... a sort of YUT DUT DUT DUH sound. Any thoughts appreciated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FPrSIzGTZ0

It would help immensely if you provided a time stamp for exactly when the sound is heard.

Thanks for the reply. The sound is heard intermittently throughout the song. Most often at the beginning of every line during the CHORUS.

So she is just about to sing "Baby it's all or nothing now ..."
The effect is just before she sings the above line and repeats throughout the Chorus.

I guess it is at 0.38 and 0.45. Probably not cost effective to drop a clavichord.
Some kind of LFO or gated/side chain effect?

You would need to use delay on the NS3, as the arpeggiator does not have a "chord" mode like the NW2, and there is more than one note in there. There is also noise mixed in the sound, so it would require both panels to reproduce.

I would try a square LFO, applied to the filter, and send whatever sample/synth it is into a "small" or a "twin" amp, with lots of drive, highs eq'd out, bass out a bit, and compression, some reverb.

Maybe an electric guitar sample as source, though with enough drive, it's probably almost irrelevant what the actual sample is.

Instead of the square LFO, the tremolo effect might work, as well.
