See my signature. The Sony closed back are for careful listening to a single track. The Beyerdynamic open back are for getting a different perspective on mixing and mastering when I want a different sound from my near field monitors.

Love both sets of headphones; quite comfortable for 1-2-3 hours; much longer than my ears can tolerate the 'close sound' of headphones. Use both for playing at night, depending upon whether or not I want to hear the other noises in the house.

I use a behringer hpm 1000. I like them because they are affordable and have good sound quality. I also like that they are lightweight and have a comfortable fit. They are not the best headphones on the market, but they are a good option for people who are looking for an affordable pair of headphones.

Thanks,

MDR 7506 are my favorite, I bought them for mixing but I find them very good also for playing at home; I also use an AKG K121 Studio (semiclosed) sometimes

I've been using a pair of Oppo PM-3 closed-back headphones, but I recently bought the Sennheiser HD 650 open-backs. I'm still waiting for my new headphone amp (Schiit Magni 3+) before making my ultimate decision, but so far the HD 650s definitely sound bigger (less inside my head), warmer and more natural than the PM-3s.

The PM-3s feel more in your face with detail... they are planar magnetic after all, while the 650s are dynamic... but the PM-3 also feel more compressed, as in quieter details feel like they are played artificially louder than they would be naturally heard. I'm not sure if that is just the difference of the closed vs open back design too, but the 650s feel like have a more natural, smoother sound profile.

EDIT: also the 650s are much more comfortable and light feeling. Not that the PM-3s are uncomfortable, but my ears always felt hot and sweaty after extended use, and I haven't noticed that with the 650s.
