I have a new Stage 3 88, and a two -year old Piano 4. I bought the Stage 3 thinking it was all I would need, but still find limited layering capablility with pads and "specials". Would the Wave 2 be the logical addition if I sell my Piano 4?
I am spoilied by my lowly MODX7 for multi layer voicings and desire more layering capability added my NS3 ( My MODX7 pairs nicely, but I want a pro-level Rig for roading.)
IS the Wave 2 the answer for more layers?

I also have a Stage 3 and needed more than two synth slots, so I bought the A1. When the Wave 2 was announced I pre-ordered it and bought it when it came in. The Wave two has 4 synths (like the A1) one each with its own effects and arp. It also plays samples which the A1 could not do. I find this combination is a great choice for a powerful and lightweight rig (and no Wall Wart!).

Got a stage 3 with Wave 2. Great mix. I miss two things:

• Would be great if the wave also has the Hammond section.
  Now I midi the wave to the Stage 3 for that.
• Would be great is the songs mode from the Stage 3 would allow for external program changes.
  I now need to create a seperate program with external section with only PC to get the wave 2 to change PC depending on the song.
  If i want the use the same piano program on the stage with different programs in the wave, I now need to create a songs and a program for each combination.
  If this was handled in the songs mode, I could use one stage program and per song select the sound on the wave 2.

I use pretty complex splits and layers, but always manage to get things done easily. Great combination, best I ever had!

I have a NS3C with Wave 2 (and a Piano 4) and agree it’s a good combo.

Song mode does allow program changes. This is the way I use my NS3 and Wave 2. Been doing it for a year.

Yes, but not external (to my wave 2).
Current setup:

song with Piano on NS3 and brass on NW2
song1 --> program1 (piano white grand) with external section PC change to Wave 2 program 10 (brass)
song with Piano on NS3 and strings on NW2
song2 --> program2 (piano white grand) with external section PC change to Wave 2 program 11 (strings)


but nicer would be a PC from the song mode, this saves double programs for only a PC to the wave 2:
song with Piano on NS3 and brass on NW2
song1 :
internal: --> program1 (piano white grand)
external: --> PC change to Wave 2 program 10 (brass)
song2
internal: --> program1 (piano white grand)
external: --> PC change to Wave 2 program 11 (strings)

The NS 3 does this. The songs are merely pointers to a program. If you set your Extern section to Per Program mode it will automatically load whatever W2 program you need. You are requesting that a single Program 1 send two different PC messages. Two separate programs is the only workaround.

Difficult to get my point clear:
I know that from a program you can send a PC via the external section.

Suppose i have 2 songs:
song1: piano on ns3 and brass on nw2
song2: same piano on ns3 and songs on nw2

Now you will need 2 programs with the only difference in the external section.

Would be great if you can select external PC from the song (so not from the program).
Now you can only select internal programs within the song.

I'll manage with the current implementation, but feels stupid to have so many programs with the same NS3 settings and only the extern section difference.

The problem will be:

Some want "songs" to include programs with variations of EXT PC commands,
others may want variations of "only" reverb, drive, different split points or routing.
So in the end, songs would be upper level programs.

I have a stage 3 and wave 2 and LOVE the combo. Don’t have much to add to what the other guys are saying because I use the combo the same way. Love using the Stage 3 b3 on the wave 2 waterfall keybed on songs that I need it (MIDI). I have a stage 3 88 HA so very helpful on organ heavy songs/solos.
