NG — stupid time to buy?
I’m in the market for good piano + e piano + effects board. Had bought a Korg SV2S, but I’m not happy with it for various reasons, so I’m going to exchange. I’m strongly inclined to go for a Nord Grand. But is the NG2 imminent? Is it a stupid time to go for a Grand?

Re: NG — stupid time to buy?
The only thing I know is that Nord will assist SuperBooth22 in Berlin in May. Nord has not in the past and probably will not in the future give information about business plans.
Every now and then people pop up on the forum asking if a new Nord XY is pending. I asked the same thing for a successor of the Nord Stage 3 two years ago. There still isn't anything looking that way. Luckily, I only waited 2 months after knowing that this was my thing. The two years on the forum now, nobody got a clear answer for that sort of questions. Often, people are referred to good 2nd hand prices you can achieve if you really would want to upgrade your instrument after a relatively short time.
Maybe you'll find people on the forum saying that the next thing they awaited was a XY - but who knows if the next new Nord is an Electro 7, a Stage 4 or a Grand 2?

If I was in the market for something now, I'd look closely at the Nord Piano 5. It is their newest stage piano tech and has a lot of great features.
Nords: NE2, NS2 88, NS3 Compact x 2
Live rig: NS3, Vent, Radial KL-8, Shure PSM-900 IEM Rig, UE18 & UE7 IEMs.
Studio: Hammond A-101 & Leslie 122, Yamaha CP-80, Yamaha S90, NS2, DSI Prophet-6, Vent II, Roland JX-8P.

Re: NG — stupid time to buy?
Thanks. I'd wondered whether they might have a relatively predictable update schedule, but this suggests not. (Of course that the Grand itself hasn't yet had the opportunity to establish a pattern, so I don't know what I was expecting exactly... I guess I'd assumed that it could be expected to relate in a sensible way to the Piano releases, given the overlap in features?)FZiegler wrote:The only thing I know is that Nord will assist SuperBooth22 in Berlin in May. I think I'm likely to just go for it. Was just wondering whether anything would regard that as a foolish thing to do.
Thanks for the suggestion. I had considered both the NP5 (because new) and NP4 (because now discounted), but think I value the action on the Grand enough to go for that over the 5, despite lacking certain other features in comparison.ericL wrote:If I was in the market for something now, I'd look closely at the Nord Piano 5. Re: NG — stupid time to buy?
Im im exacly same Position with you.. i expect a nord grand 2 this year.. and still waiting.. i will just wait untill june namm show. If not a new grand 2 by then .. then i will buy the grand..
But nord ppiano 5 is better than grand in terms of layers etc.. grand has only better keybed.. and grand is more expensive than piano 5.. so in my opinion nord should lower the price on nord grand … anyway i am very positive that we will have something new this year and should be a nord stage 4 or 3 ex or grand 2

Re: NG — stupid time to buy?
Just my opinion, but... I really hope NOT to see yet *another* piano popping out... we already have two lines of them (and the Piano 5 just came out very recently), and there isn't much wrong with either one: what's the point of churning out piano after piano if the library stays the same -- which has, for quite some time now?

Re: NG — stupid time to buy?
They are all great instruments -- even the early Electros and Stages. While an incrementally better version might come out sooner than expected, it does nothing to diminish the value of its predecessor. As mentioned above, should you decide to upgrade, you'll find you'll get a great price for your instrument.
I think I have gear issues ....

Re: NG — stupid time to buy?
I just notice that electro 6 is released at 2018 and its the only nord that has just 1gb memory at piano library.. nord piano 4 was at 2017 nord grand was 2019 so 2021 was piano 5…

In the end, I did just go for it. Now a very happy owner of a Nord Grand.
