Hey People!
Im asking for a Studio friend - is it possible to split the Nord Wave into:
1 side own sounds from the wave
1 side controlling a external synth (in this case a Ketron SD-90) without the own wave sounds?
Didnt get if its possible in the manual.
Thank you so much in advance and have a great day
Phil

Re: WAVE 2 / Sound Split with external Synth
Hi Phil,
I don't own a Wave 2 but as far as I understood you can splti the keyboard in up to 4 regions and assign each layer to one of these regions (english manual page 10).
If you define individual MIDI channels for each layer (english manual page 32), then set Global MIDI channel to Off and set the MIDI channel of the SD-90 to one of the layer MIDI channels you should be able to control the SD-90 from the keyboard split region which has been set for that particular layer (see also english manual pages 28 to 32):
LAYER MIDI CHANNELS
Use the individual Layer MIDI channels on the Nord Wave 2 for individual
control of each Layer, both for notes and for panel parameters. This
can for example be used in a multitimbral setup, controlling 4 individual
sound sources from a sequencer.
E A Layer does not have to be active in a Program to receive MIDI,
it will always respond to incoming MIDI on its MIDI Channel. This
makes it possible to control selected Layers from the keyboard,
and other Layers from other external sources.
The Layer channels can also be used for sending MIDI, when the Global
MIDI channel is set to Off. See page 32 for information on how to
make these settings.
Wave 2 owners: please correct me if my assumption is wrong

Schorsch is correct, although the manual still has references above that say that Layers only receive midi. Program changes, however, are not sent.

Yes the manual is somewhat ambiguous here - it says that Layers only receive MIDI, but then it also says that Layers can be used to send MIDI if the Global Channel is disabled

Yeah, I think they just didn't take the time to delete that paragraph when they did the update-

To me they mean that when Global is disabled the NW2 will send MIDI Notes/CCs of each Layer on its assigned channel, but the manual also says that Program Change is only sent on Global (see page 32 Program Change on/off parameter "This setting determines whether your nord Wave 2 transmits and/or receives MIDI program Change Messages, on the Global channel")

Re: WAVE 2 / Sound Split with external Synth
Yes, as mentioned, Program change is not send by the layers when Global is disabled. Still, a pretty flexible implementation if you want to play an external synth while have a sequencer trigger a layer or two-

Re: WAVE 2 / Sound Split with external Synth
I use the Wave2 with some Modules and enjoy sending the 4 layers via different midi channels. Only downside is you can only send clock via the master channel, which you have to deactivate to use the different channels for the layers.
So another synth module is sending clock, which works but it would have been nice to use the Wave (and its tap tempo) for that, as it is my center piece.
Good masterkeyboard otherwise.

I'm missing the possibility to turn local control off permanently.
It is so annoying that it goes to default ON as soon as your turn the NW off.

That's common a behaviour on most digital keyboards, to default Local = ON at startup. You can ovverride this by creating a mute patch, to recall when you want to use it only as a master.
