Can anyone tell what synth is being played in this song?
And if you want to suggest what settings to use to get this sound, that would be icing on the cake! Thanks in advance!

Re: Wanted: "Into The Great Wide Open" (Tom Petty)
Were you referring to the slide guitar bit during the intro? Not easily recreatable on most any synth.
When I play this with bands, it's usually a smoky wurli patch for the verses, and then a layered guitar sample with organ underneath for the choruses. And I leave the intro to the guitar player

I think I have gear issues ....

Re: Wanted: "Into The Great Wide Open" (Tom Petty)
Thanks for the reply! But I'm not trying to play anyone else's instrument We're trying to play this authentically like Tom Petty. So I'm trying to play the Benmont Tench keyboard parts. In this case, there is a synth part that plays a pad-like sound in the intro, and throughout. That's what I'm trying to reproduce. I know he uses various synths, including OB-Xa, Prophet-5, DX-7, Chamberlin strings, etc. But I'm not sharp enough to know which one he's using, or what settings he uses...

Re: Wanted: "Into The Great Wide Open" (Tom Petty)
I think this is a very standard „string pad“ sound, not too bright, and if I had to guess which synth they used I‘d say the Prophet or even a DX7 could have done it that time.

Looks like he's playing the pad on an OB-Xa:
