Portishead - Roads sound

Postby troyster » 15 Oct 2021, 10:29

Good morning, all

I am just dipping my toe into the Nord Stage 3.0 which I bought yesterday and the first thing I'm trying to do is work out how to get a sound like the organ in Portishead Roads... and I've got no idea what I'm doing. Could anyone give me a clue?

Noob time!

I dont hear an organ on that song.
It has a Fender Rhodes sound on the intro. With heavy tremolo.
You'll trobably need a big string patch layer too, if you are covering the whole song without an orchestra.
Cheers Norm

You're quite right. I should have said Fender piano rather than organ.

Thanks Fred. Unfortunately that Fred only references the sound, but doesn't go into details

It's just a Rhodes with heavy tremolo like Normski said. Rate is something like 3 - 4 Hz. Use a pretty dark sample - maybe a job for the Nefertiti?

Nefertiti with heavy trem was exactly right - thanks, all of you, for your help. Great stuff :)

Here's the ns3f of the Portishead Roads sound I settled on. Hopefully it's helpful for someone else too
