If not using a layer can you assign no sample?

Everything about Nord keyboards in general; which one to choose, the sound manager, sample editor, and general discussion about the sample and piano libraries.

If not using a layer can you assign no sample?

Post by dcjams »

Hello

Referring to Nord Piano 5 but presumably applies to other models, give or take. Where you're not using a layer in a program, using the sample synth only for example, can you assign nothing to the unused layer?

Otherwise when you use Sound Manager to backup a program as a bundle it brings unnecessary data with it. In the case of an XL piano sound accidently left selected but unused, for example, it can be a very large file.

Thanks
Jim

That's a good question. I own a Stage 3, but I bet it's the same for the Piano 5. What I usually do to prevent the problem you are referring to is to select a digital piano that's usually a few MBs (I think I've been using the DX7 piano as default for this). Then I don't actually turn the piano engine on, but as you know when making bundle backups the system "sees" all the settings, even the ones switched off in that particular moment. So it does matter which piano has been selected under the hood.

So I guess no, there's no an "empty" slot feature per se, but you can work that around by selecting a light sample.

Yeah that seems like the best workaround.

I use the clavinet for this situation. I believe it uses the least memory.
