Drive/boost stompboxes

Postby LeftyBass68 » 03 Aug 2021, 05:02

Greetings all, hope life is good wherever you are!

Just need to process these guitar samples post Nord and before input to this 25W Peavey Rage 258 guitar amp.
Watched a few demos. As of now my first choice is the locally made McGregor Crunch.
Any guitarists using this device on here? If not, what stomp box does a transparent drive well in your opinion?
Impressed with the Tele57 into this Boss CE-1 and need a good boost/crunch/drive that mimics large amps for the LP55 neck samples.
Nord Twin model does well but I need P90's to honk and the Stage 3 FX don't quite get that sound where it needs to be.
Any performance advice in achieving more natural transparent post drive appreciated!
Adding top end to the Strat62 just like the real deal so what box does that well?

Thanks in advance, keep on keepin' on!

G'day Lefty. Is this for live performance, or you have the option of postprocessing in a DAW? If the latter, I'd head straight to software for this, plenty of great VST amp simulators.

For pedals, I've found the JOYO "British" (Marshall) and "American" (Fender) overdrive pedals to be very useful at only about $45 US each. Both have nice EQ too.

Thank you CountFosco and WannitBBBad for your replies! Recording DAW this long layoff taught me how powerful the platform really is.Most simulations are at least adequate for demo if not finished product.Happy to record that way.
Performing live there will be no 'laptop/mainstage' to be seen or used. Two Nord S3's,pair of floor wedges, guitar amp, pedal board. And you can be guaranteed at least one original Neo Vent will be on that! Will look at Joyo for a 'plexi' P90
tone then before I go ahead with the McCrunch which is a half hour from here.guitar shops might get a visit with my Compact.Should be interesting.

I like what I can get out of both pedals and at that price, it's easy to justify having one as a spare if you still decide to get the Crunch. Good luck!

The best sounding pedal I have is the Moog Minifooger MF Drive. Awesome little box and really versatile, it's not only a drive but also a filter/wah/boost.
Only caveat: it has a Moog filter which colors the sound even when fully open.
For me that's actually a plus, but if you're looking for a clean transparent pedal, maybe it's not for you. Not to mention that it's out of production and almost unobtainable nowadays

Yes Spider that is a great device!Unlikely to obtain one so in the meantime of forever this BoogD has lots of patch points.Added some 'ring mod' to this Hammond A102 just abouta right!Neutron also has external audio ins.Great FX that are also analog synths. They actually sound really good.Behringer owns/manufactures the Curtis chips used by Moog and DSI.They also own Midas/Klark so quality is never an issue in my experience. No sense padding foreign pension funds, those jobs vanished decades ago.

After trying out the Peavey amp I am impressed! Adds that clean boost or three choices of lead voicing, one of which has a similar EQ of the 4/12.Decided to go with the Nord compression and fx,minus the amp sim which is needed for the B3!
The minute I take this Stage 3 organ off the Hammond organ input(AO28 preamp) and Neo Ventilator it needs a lot of help. Also tempered with the reality many engineers can make a placebo of my tone so easily, still even a Vent, and Klon pedal can help out the so called 'organ preamp'.The Nord guitars are one shot samples and paired up on two panels still sound as good for live work as any keytar I have tried though,a guitar amp post comp/verb gets most excellent results!Added a little 4/1
resistance mixer to crush L/R down to a mono guitar amp input. The chorus 2 on the Stage3 is almost as lush as a CE-1 but has no 'opamp' input on the dry tone which gives guitars a special clean boost.

Will audition a 'British' overdrive pedal,it must be transparent though. The extra inertia and dimension of the Ventilator is obvious.Looking for just the right 4/12 effect, and this Radial JDX speaker DI is also in the chain.
