Knobby Nord Drum??

Post by Eric Jaeger »

I really love the way the Nord Drums sound and the architecture used to create the sounds. What I don't like is the user interface to create the sounds. Having to jump around to select different parameters and then go back to the edit knob is tedious. Also the display is very cryptic.

Is anyone aware of a drum sound module similar to the Nord Drums but instead uses a more "knobby" interface. It would be great to have a dedicated knob for each of the parameters so that you could directly and easily adjust the parameters without having to bounce back and forth between parameter selection and adjustment. Also a better screen readout would be great also.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi Eric, welcome to the forum!
I got used to the interface and I can edit it quickly and blindly, but I agree a knob for each parameter would be nice, but there are quite a lot of parameters.. You can make a Nord drum more 'knobby' with a controller like the Electra one (two rows of 6 encoders suits the Nord drum 2 and 3 perfectly), or a Faderfox.
There are many other drum synths, both analog and digital, check out Roland, Korg, Arturia, Dave Smith, Elektron, Jomox, MFB, but I have no experience with any of them, sorry!

Thanks for the advice. I do own quite a few other drum modules. My most "knobby" module is my MAM ADX1. I'm also using the Cyclone TT-78 and TT-606 drum machines. The Vermona DRM1 is also something I have been looking at.

I prefer sounds not being samples like what most other drum machines offer. I really like analog synth generated sounds but the sound architecture of the Nord Drums take it one step further with being able to adjust "modeled" portions of percussive sounds. I just wish it was more "knobby"!!
