Using new sounds/samples?

Postby mishmashmosh » 06 Apr 2021, 23:33

Hello,
I'm getting aquainted with a Nord Piano 2 and I'm tearing my hair out trying to use new samples. I've downloaded two Bass samples from the website, which said they were compatible with Nord Piano 2. I then used Nord Sound Manager to get the new samples into the SampLib of the keyboard but from there... I can't access or play them? If I assign them to a program it won't allow the program to just be the bass sound, it has a keyboard sound there as well. How can I make the program not have a keyboard sound, or make a new program that is just the bass sound?I've been googling and reading pdfs for 90 minutes and no joy... so frustrating! Thank you!

Your Piano 2 has two sound engines: a piano and a sample synth engine. If you've managed to get the bass sound on the sample synth engine, you will just have to switch the piano engine off. That's it.

[Shift][Store] will work as "Store as.." where you can save your result as a new program (I assume).

If you take your time to flip through the manual, it might be more relaxing next time: It's worth reading it.

A "program" in Nord lingo is always the FULL set of controls — all available engines, piano AND synth (and organ, where available), on all layers (the Stage has 2 layers called "Slots" or "Panels"), and all effects settings. Regardless of whether a particular engine or effect is actually switched on.

A sample is just the raw material for a synth engine, just as the .npno files are just the raw pianos that can be used by a program. They may be used by multiple programs, or not at all. If a program refers to a particular sample and that sample is missing, the program will still be there, but the synth won't play.

So: You need to create a program where the synth is set to use the sample you loaded onto the machine, and save that program in a free position (or overwrite an existing program).

You can switch each section on or off using the grey button at the bottom of the engine‘s panel.
