Hi folks,
I currently own a Nord Stage 3 88 and I am thinking of extending my current setup. I think of buying a Nord Electro 6D 61 as a good companion of my Stage.
The reason for it is that with my band I sometimes have smaller gigs in churches or similar and I only need a reduced setup. For those gigs the Stage is simply to heavy.
My band does some Acoustic Cover Pop Songs mixed with some Rock Songs.
Do you think it makes sense to extend a Stage with a Electro.
Also I started doing Home Recording and having another board would give me new nice Midi possibilities with Multiple Sounds on different MIDI channels.
What is your take on it and is a new Electro 7 around the corner?

If you are used to the Stage 88 as your main board, it may be a little awkward switching to the 61 keys for the smaller gigs. I would opt for the 6d 73 for the extra range.

Re: Nord Electro 6D additional to Nord Stage 3
An Electro 6D-73 is less than half the weight of a Stage 3-HA88. That sounds as a good option for slim gear: light enough. Playing mostly piano, I'd opt for a 73, too. More space to play, more space to split. An Electro 6D-61 is nice, too - but probably not for stand-alone use, if it's not only synth and organ you want to play with.
There are people around who even own a Stage HA88 and a Stage Compact. And might use them at the same time. If it's the same generation, you even would be able to exchange sounds. Would be cool, too.
For my needs, one Stage 3 unit is enough - I just need 2 different keybeds. But that way, I always have to bring both keyboards, as my second unit is only a MIDI controller.
On the other side, I'm not so sure about the profit for your studio environment. An Electro will serve basic needs, but it's not a VSTi or DAW controller.
The corners for the Electro 7: They have been erected multiple times here on the forum wanting to force their appearance a bit - but nobody has been able to look around for the moment. In other words: Nobody knows, nobody 'round here has exclusive knowledge.

Thanks already for the comments so far.
Also interesting option to have two Stage but I think this will exceed my budget
It is the same case for me, I would like to have a second keybed. Have also thought about a MIDI controller, but not sure whether this will due the trick.
I thought of using the sound libraries from Nord as I really like the sounds but have multiple MIDI channels if there are two instances instead of one So more sounds in parallel.
Hmm so nothing more but waiting for the Elektro 7.

Although an NS3 Compact is $1,200 more than an Electro 6 73 here in the US, the extra money buys you a lot including the synth engine, 6 simultaneous sounds (two each of organ/piano/synth), 4 split zones, expanded memory for pianos and samples, and a quick backup/restore (only two minutes if no new samples are being added) to keep both boards in-sync.
Edit: The OP posted his budget concerns while I was typing the response above. I would not encourage anyone to go outside of the budget.

Hi Niggoe,
I think that according to your programme of songs resp. styles of music the NE6 would be a good addition, even in the 61 keys version. I play rock and Schlager myself and do almost never miss more than 61 keys. Only when I play Solo Piano I need to take a larger keyboard.
And the NE6 61 is so easy to carry, even on the back seats of a small car.
Cheers from the middle of Germany

Re: Nord Electro 6D additional to Nord Stage 3
Coming from the other direction?
I have never been happier with my NS3C on top and a weighted keybed controller below. I now can use the single panel on the NS3C to control everything: voices, presets, effects, etc. No outboard processing necessary. I have single pair of outputs to deal with, no mixer required. And a single set of pedals for everything.
So if you're itching for a "top board", you do have the option of starting there. Works great for me!

I think I have gear issues ....

There's no contradiction between the budget of Niggoe and Ajstan owning two Stage 3 - if it fits to Ajstan's budget it's an option for him (like it is for me), but if someone like Niggoe is saying that this would go beyond his available budget we should recommend what's within his budget so I agree with Ajstan here.
