Re: Nord in a Grand Piano Case?
As for the Roland in a Grand case - everybody tells me I look like Billy Joel these days, Thats pretty upsetting enough, but at I can play and sing his repertoire..........

Re: Nord in a Grand Piano Case?
To help finance my new Nord Electro 6, I sold my Hammond XK-1 to a guy who builds piano shells for keyboards.
Here is his company website - http://www.stevewaypianos.com - based in the UK
Hope this is useful !

At a live gig there are no substitutes for Nord keyboards in my opinion. The tribute show these pics are from featured two vocalist/piano performers fronting a band. One of them played and sang. The other sang great and really nailed the artist he covers but can't play a note; so I ghosted the best known Little Richard performer on the planet,Gary Moore. The Stage2EX with both
piano panels active....hey man nothin' subtle here.Beat me daddy eight to the bar.The C2D really nails Hammond well on the TinaT/J. Brown portions of the show.NS3C synth for the 'extras'.
Actually pulled off the marcato strings intro for Man's World with what comes factory on a Stage 3,I keep telling people it's ''how and what' is played that counts more than the brand.
Regarding Korg/Yamaha as the end all and best available is so 1999.....
After auditioning the mic'd Leslie it ended up my 'monitor' and the Ventilator was sent to FOH.The 251 sure sounds great on that stage though.
Others might disagree,Nord at the very least is adequate and in most instances more than good enough to get the job done.If you like those giant Kronos and RD and Motif that's your thing.
Also nice to use a platform that will be around for more than 24 months.....

Re: Nord in a Grand Piano Case?
Rusty Mike wrote:There are companies out there who make faux piano shells to fit digitals in. I don’t recall the names of the builders, but they do exist. For what I recall, the shells are lighter than real piano bodies, and disassemble for transport.
Well - I finally bit the bullet and purchased a premade grand shell from Plan B pianos. I went with the 2.5’ version but probably should have gone with a larger one. The smallest one they make fits nicely in a small space but it suffers from imperfect stability. Shims under the front legs that push some weight to the rear have helped but it isn’t as 100% rock solid as I had hoped. Having said that, it’s more solid than any of the X-stands or flat stands I’ve used and it looks stunning to me. Even so tiny, it captures the essence really well. Ray - from Plan B - is great to work with. Very passionate about his product and patient to explain details. He did some custom work on his standard case to be sure it would work with the Nord Grand and overall I’m very happy with it.
I’ve attached some pictures - overall very happy with it as a more permanent setup at the house. It is easy enough to assemble and disassemble but I don’t know that I’d like to take it on the road to small clubs. What do you think?
