Chord Memory Hack - Wave 2

Postby conrad8 » 26 Nov 2020, 20:07

Hi All,

I'm really wanting to purchase a Nord Wave 2.

I play live and use Chord Memory on synths.

Is there ANY way to get the NW2 to play Chord Memory chords with one finger.... perhaps using the Chord Arpeggiater with only one arp iteration. Is there a Hack basically?

Thanks

I haven't found a way only using the NW2 other than transposing a different amount on each layer to make a chord. I currently use an iPad running Midiflow to do chord triggers etc. with the NW2. Also allows me to use a Roli Lightpad as a pad controller.

I also looked at Blokas Midihub or Bomebox but expensive.

I don't use this feature, but HF is correct, you could set up a program that has up to four different pitches (making a chord) and then triggering it with one finger-

So would be limited to 4 layers - 4 note chord the same a minilogue.... thats not really ideal for the amount of money this thing costs. I never understand why its included in the Nord Lead 4 but not A1 not Wave etc.... so frustrating.

Are there any people writing scripts or changing settings to achieve things like this - or is that crazy and very wishful thinking? Cheers

You could roll your own samples and load them into the machine using NSE. You could program the stacked notes any way you like and play them from a single key-

That is something I often do with my electro4 that has not even layer and split functionality...will work with simple sounds but if there are lfo's or other articulations involved, then looping might be a problem.

I use the plugin Cthulhu in my DAW (Abelton Live) to do this. I works very well and comes with a cool, very flexible arp. I'm really working on becoming a better keyboard player so I haven't used this trick since I got my wave2 and had to check that I could set up the midi to route it to Cthuhlu and back to my wave2 to play the sounds on the wave2, and yes it does work fine. Of course you're going to need a computer and a Daw to do this, but doesn't everyone have these things?

Hi there! This sounds really cool. Can I do this with the nord lead a1? I only have 5 fingers between two hands so I’m looking for a way to add chord memory. Does this method mean you have to use a controller keyboard or can you still play the nord Keys direct? Thanks!

There are plenty of 4 note voicings of extended chords. Check out something like De Greg's Jazz Keyboard Harmony (chapter 3 particularly)
