Nord Grand OLED buzz

Post by Robmoreno »

Hi all,

Long story short— I bought a Nord grand and it arrived defective. I returned it and got another. This one seemed perfectly fine but when my Nord monitors arrived, I plugged them in and noticed a lot of buzz and hiss.I feel like the hiss from the Nord monitor tweeters is unreasonably loud and because of this it prompted me to take a closer look at the whole setup. This is when I noticed a crackly buzz from the OLED it’s not terribly noticeable most of the time but it is audible from normal playing distance. What’s going on? Anyone else have the same issue?

Thanks

Rob

Hi and welcome to the forum!

This has been brought up before here on NUF. A certain level of "buzzing" seems common among Nord displays. My NS3 displays both have a weak buzz that can be heard when putting your ear a few inches away from the displays. Farther than that, and I can't hear it. The more pixel are on at a given time, the stronger the buzz is. Now, as far as how *much* of that is "normal", I don't know. Can you record a clip where this can be heard, in comparison to other ambient sounds?

Hi, thanks for the welcome. I actually had a video up but it isn't here anymore for some reason. It is pretty faint, but very noticable from the playing position. However, i am quite sensative to frequencies in this range. I'll post it again! Thanks.

Anyone else having the OLED buzz? A lot of people seemed to have viewed the thread but maybe not many NG owners? Thanks

As I said there are plenty of posts already dealing with this "issue", with various Nord keyboards which use OLED displays, including the Grand. The reason why they usually mention the Stage and Electro instead is probably because they are more popular in terms of sold units.

Try Googling "nord oled buzz". First results are dozens of thread from this very forum, from Reddit, YouTube videos, SoundonSound, plus a bunch of other forums where people asked the very same question.

The bottom line is that buzzing can vary in its loudness, but it is normal to have "some". Whether that "some" is adequate, I guess it's subjective. Again, unless you can hear the buzz so much that it covers ambient sounds, which would indicate something defective, I'd say it's pretty normal.
