Half Moon Switch technical informations

Postby Coprah66 » 25 Aug 2020, 06:22

Hello,

Is there anyone who can tell me how the Half Moon control connections are for Leslie to work?
I need to know how it's plugged into the Jack for example

Long part of the Jack = 1; Part near the tip = 2; tip = 3

Low position = Contact between 1 and 2
Fast position = Contact between 1 and 3
Stop postion = Contact between 2 and 3

These indications are false = this is an example to answer. You need a bell (Battery plus bulb with 2 wires) or a multimeter to obtain this information. And of course have an original Half Moon contactor.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards.
Georges

Why don't you just discover it yourself? It's easy, no need for a battery (it's a switch! You may damage the input instead using a battery...) or a multimeter: just plug a stereo cable into the Rotary jack then using a wire try all possible combinations of the 3 contacts and see what happens.

Or... use the search function of this forum and you may find topics like this one nord-c1-c2-c2d-organ-forum-f13/homemade-half-moon-switch-t4139.html ;)

Maxpiano,

I would do it the way Coprah suggested: using an ohmmeter (with battery) on the switch, not on the NE. And go for testing. Don't see a risk for damage that way (< 5 V).

OK, yes ai misread that yiu are right (sorry @Coprah66), but I would still use a multimeter rather than the battery+bulb (and anyway the thread I linked already contains the answer ;-) )

Hello friends,

Thanks for the first answers.

It is not a question of testing the internal connection of the Nord keyboard but only on the option on which there will be no risk to use an ohmeter.
I am wondering how the technic was made to have slow - stop - fast as functions. The stop leslie function may be commanded by making contact between the body, tip and tip at the same time but I'm afraid of creating an internal short circuit.
I bought a 3-position switch and connected it. it works very well for the Slow and Fast functions but not the stop function. This is why I asked the question to a member who has this option. Simply disconnect it and test the active contacts according to the position of the control.

Perhaps it would be possible to tell me if the Stop position (the center of the half moon switch) puts the Leslie on Off as on the keyboard itself.

Thank you in advance.
Truly.
Georges

Hey Georges, have you read the discussion I linked in my previous post? It's all explained there nord-c1-c2-c2d-organ-forum-f13/homemade-half-moon-switch-t4139.html, Off = Stop should be "nothing connected".

Of course you need to set the Rotary Control type to Half Moon in the NE5 System Menu to obtain the correct behavior, I assume you already did that.

Shortcutting to the basics from the linked thread:
Sleeve works as ground.
- Slow = Tip connected to Sleeve.
- Fast = Ring connected to Sleeve.
- Stop = None of them connected.

The only non-used connections would be
- Both Tip & Ring to Sleeve
- Only Tip to Ring.
I would highly doubt anything would break if trying them (since strange connections may intermittently happen when inserting a TRS plug into a power-up keyboard) but to be on the safe side perhaps don't try...

Hello

Yes I had seen it, I connected my 3-way half-moon connector a little differently because I wanted the stop on the left slow on the right and fast in the middle.
Thank you so much.
I just wanted to know if the Half Moon stop connection stopped the slow rotation like the command on the keyboard. But that doesn't seem to do it.
Like you, I didn't want to pay a pro-inhibitory price for a set that cost me less than € 20. The box is black instead of the Red Clavia but the functions of the selector are the same and it is fixed in the same place as the option.
Thanks again.

@ mitiés.
