I don't believe it will come soon, but when it comes it will certainly not contain all the features of the wave 2. If it did it would kill the sales of the wave. If we consider that the stage 3 features a limited version of the A1, in the same way the 4 may have some cool new features taken from the wave 2, but not it's complete engine IMO.

If past releases are a guide, we can expect the release of a Stage 3 EX with identical functionality but more storage this year or next year, and a Stage 4 maybe in 2023 or so.

Most of the Lead A1 seems to be in the Stage3 aside from the amount of layers and some other extra features...but as far as the basic sound design most is there. The NW2 is basically an expanded A1 anyway, so a lot of the features would probably transfer...

1 - Another partnership with Kawai for the 88 version with the fine-tuning made in the Nord Grand to ensure more connection between keys and sound
2 - Midi internal multitrack recorder
3 - Audio over USB

Nord Stage 4 wish list

Post by MartinJ2EX »

Not sure about the Kawai keybed - it could be too heavy for organ playing.
The Fatar TP40M is very nice to cover all instrument engines of the Stage imho.

if they do it additionally, that could be nice...
Compact 73,
76 HP
88 HA
88 Kawai Hammer Action

If I could wish for new features :
(while keeping in mind that it will take at least 3 more years until a Stage 3 will supersede a Stage 3 EX)

1)
a more sophisticated effects routing.
no menu diving, of course, but something similar to the selection of split zones.. double/shift clicking can select either one, or any combination of 2 engines, or all three engines... thaaat would be cool!! Now I have to use two seperate panels to get the same effect on max. 2 different instruments... :shh:

2)
dedicated depth rotary knob for chorus and similar effects (in addition to dry/wet and rate)
for example, to get close to that really nice fat Juno chorus 8-) 8-)

3)
reverb - dry/wet per instrument (optional, sometimes nice to have)
I know the limiting factor is the space available on the board - it's already pretty packed with features and knobs :D

4)
Synth DLYvibrato setting saved per patch (1-50 Hz) - is this a thing on Nord Wave 2 or Stage 3 already?

5)
real SuperSaw with spread settings, like on Nord Wave 2, not just fixed samples :)

5)
more B3 / rotary settings
more dramatic vintage modes e.g. or even single settings like leakage, etc.
more rotary settings like speed with values, not only "fast, normal, slow"

6)
show both panel settings on the OLED screen.
Now, there's only the info for the currently selected Panel, right?
I'd love to see:
Organ A: B3 888000000 | B3 888640088 (can be the same design with visual representation, not numbers, but both panels like on Electro 6)
Piano A: White Grand | B: Ballad EP1
Synth A: Symph Strings | B: SuperSaw
I can imagine, that the screen is too small to show all this info, but maybe increase its size, or maybe change to a moving text (like in all music apps or in cars), or switch the info from time to time... :)

Big yes on the depth knob for Effect 2, and the deeper effect routing flexibility. The depth knob seems like a no brainer, not sure why this wasn't the default to start with.

Maybe more for a future Electro, but I guess also NS4 Compact: Motorized drawbars!
The ultimate fix for the "preset problem" with the physical drawbars.
The new Yamaha solution with LED's is a pretty compromise, but nothing compared to actual motorized drawbars.

Would add to price of course, but I'd for sure be willing to peel off some more money to get that.

I don’t think I would like the extra expense and weight that comes with motorized drawbars. I’m fine looking at the display to see the drawbar settings. Otherwise, I agree that Yamaha’s implementation is a decent compromise.

We like different.
That's ok.
