Which headphones do you use

Postby Novett » 12 Mar 2020, 11:03

Hi everyone!
I'm a happy owner of Nord 2. Everything was OK but yesterday my dog totally destroyed Sennheiser HD 599... I really liked these headphones and have been using them for 2 years. And this was a gift.
Now I don't have enough money to buy a new pair of Sennheiser. So I want to ask you: which headphones do you use? Do they cost more or less than this model?
I really hope there could be some budget options for me and I'm looking forward to hearing your opinions.
Thanks in advance!

John

Sorry to hear that. This article should help. I’ve found recommendations from The Wirecutter to be very good.

I have a pair of Shure SRH-440 headphones that I got for around $89, but they have a little more boominess than I would like for pianos.

+1 but be aware that they are extremely precise, even in the high end, more for a surgical use so, just to play, after few hours, i think they bring some fatigue so, I bought the ATM H50 for that, but both are great for mixing and tracking too...

Thank you guys, you are cool!

I've picked a Sony MDR-7506 and now can't wait for testing it.

I'd also like to share some good links I've checked:

These are the ones that I use, there are better than these, but they are the best I have been able to buy.
All three sound great for pianos and do not need an amplifier.

Fidelio X2HR - Neutral/Warm
HD 599 - Warm
SHP9500 -Neutral/Bright (This is the most comfortable and is cheap)

Fidelio X2HR sound a little bit better than HD 599. The only problem with X2HR, They are very heavy for my neck and causes pain by practicing for long sessions.

There is a website: rtings.com where you can see analysis of various headphones, in general open ones will give you a sound similar to your HD599, closed ones I don't like for pianos, they make it sound metallic and artificial.

I have the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro, bought a few months ago or so, and oddily enough despite their extragalactic price, I have to say I have been half disappointed. They have very positive reviews in general, so I have been a bit puzzled myself as to why I find them underwhelming. Not sure about the HD 599, maybe it's paradoxically better since it costs less. :D
