(For some of you, this was obvious from the first moment you saw a Nord. For me, it has taken months and months. So I apologize if this was obvious to you.)



I've been picking up the Stage 3 88 (which is, to be honest, pretty heavy) by holding the wood "cheeks" on both sides. Of course I've never clamped down on the keys themselves to pick it up... that much I could already tell.

And then I watched someone who actually knows how to lift it: slip your hands underneath, hold the back and "forklift" it.

But remember, always lift with your legs and not with your back.

Haha, what a tutorial. Everyone should of course buy whatever they like, but someone for whom the first 8 minutes contain something new (besides the fork-lift, of course), I recommend against buying such a overwhelmingly versatile and professional keyboard...

I would have been more worried about the X-stand.
Avoid that if you can, there are so many examples out there on a collapsing X-stand

You can easily prevent a catastrophic X stand collapse with a belt or strap around the top tubes, to prevent opening it more than the locked position.

I have the habit of picking my 5D up from my soft case by grabbing the wooden end by one hand and simply lifting it up one-handed.
Works equally well when putting it back.
Perhaps not the most well-advised way of doing it, but it works...

When you can afford a Nord, you certainly would want to buy a better stand than this one.

And I always pick my keys up, back and front.

Nowhere near as dangerous as column stands (except for the ones that support the keyboard by the front edge).
I had one with an MPK88 (weighs as much as an NS3) on it (because I and not very smart sometimes) and when I turned from the keyboard to a piano set up perpendicular to it, it slid off and flipped over forward and landed face down pressing down all the keys on the supersaw patch that I had running. It sounded like descending into the depths of Hades.
No harm done to the keyboard, I'm just glad I wasn't underneath it when it happened.

My 24-yr-old Alesis QuadraSynth Plus has a built-in handle on the bottom which makes it easy to lift and carry.
