Sorry to revive this old forum page, but I wanted to know how to get rid of this static sound from my Nord to Garageband (ipad)? Please listen to my recording (link provided below).

This is how I have my recording gear setup: Nord NP88 (Bright Yamaha)> Behringer Xeynx 802 mixer > Behringer UCA202 audio interface > Ipad 2 > GarageBand. Listen to the static which is obvious in the beggining of the audio file. I know its not ground loop. I wonder what it is.... All of my cables and equipment is relatively new. Do you think its one of the Behringer products I am using? please help. Thanks.

Hi Cliff,
You're right it's not a ground loop.
Usually it's related to a noisy power supply in something that's connected via USB.
Your USB audio interface should not share a USB connection with any piece of equipment (no hubs, or port replicators)
I would try disconnecting externally powered USB devices one at a time until the noise goes away.
My guess is that it may be the NP.
I have that same sound when my Motif Rack is connected via USB, it's aggravated by my charging adapter being plugged in.
Just my 2 centavos worth.
Cheers, Hanon

Thank you Hanon. Very appreciative. I will try to find a solution and try your recommendation in unplugging USB powered equipments. Thanks

I have use ipad garageband > echo audiofire audio interface and play it with NP,
and not had this problems tho.
I think the NP is not the problem.
I use cheap coaxial Y connector to 3.5 mm jack and using converter to 1/4phone (TS) to audio interface.
no noise so far.
But I used a good Power Supply for my Computer.

What I meant was any externally powered USB device (device with it's own source of power).
I don't believe that devices powered by the same USB source would be a problem.
In addition, your audio interface should not share a USB connection with any other (no hubs, or replicators.)

I had a situation with my NE3 that my audio interface would have the same noise as you report.
If I unplugged my laptop charging adapter, or the NE3, the noise went away.
I also currently have the problem with my 15" MBP if my Motif Rack is powered on, and plugged in via USB at the same time as the audio interface.

Cheers, Hanon

I've found a piece of software that claims to output midi from GB. It's midiO by RetroWare. This should allow you to play back any midi file on GB on your keyboard. I've haven't tried it, though.
