Restore Failed - Operation is not allowed - RESOLVED v7.52

Post by ajstan »

UPDATE #2: This issue has been fixed in NSM v7.52. The workaround noted below is no longer needed.

RESOLVED: Clavia responded to my support request. There is an issue with the current version of Sound Manager (v7.46) that will be addressed with an update. If you delete all the Marimba and Vibraphone samples from the Piano section before restoring, the restore proceeds correctly.

I didn't have the Marimba and Vibraphone on my new NS3C when I performed the initial restore from the backup from my HA88 (which had Marimba and vibraphone loaded), so it worked. After that, both units had the Marimba and Vibraphone, so restores wouldn't work.

------

Hi all, I'm looking for ideas to try. I am unable to restore any backups to either my NS3-88 or NS3-C. I get an error box that reads, "Restore Failed - Operation is not allowed" (see attached image).

Yesterday I was able to backup the 88 and restore to the new C I just got (just did it once and it worked flawlessly). I made some changes on the 88 and wanted to backup and restore to the C this evening. Now, I cannot restore to any board.

- Windows 10 - no updates since yesterday.
- Deleted and reinstalled the Clavia USB Driver
- Deleted and reinstalled NSM 7.46
- Using different USB cables on each board.
- Rebooted the PC several times.

- Both units are on v2.22
- Memory protection is off.
- I am unable to execute the same restore file as yesterday.
- I am unable to restore a new or previous backup to either board, regardless of which machine it was created on.

I didn't see any helpful threads when searching. Any help would be appreciated.

UPDATE: I used a different PC and tried to restore an existing file as well as back up and restore a new file to my NS3C. The backup worked fine (no errors). I get the same error message when restoring via the second PC.

Memory protection — never mind, reread post.

Hi! Are source backups done with SAME Os of destination machines?
If you have done backups yesterday , and today you have upgraded your OS ,maybe it could not work properly.
I'm sure this happens with higher OS , for instance , if you do backup on 2.22 and you have destination nord on 2.0 , you have to upgrade OS , then you do backup.
But unfortunatly looks like you're working with higher os from the beginning, so it should work....don't know....
Anyway , (if I remember....it happened years ago with a rental machine ) I had this message about OS conflict (backup on a NS with different OS than destination NS)
Hope it helps
Fabio

Never seen such an error so I cannot help on that, as an emergency workaround you can rename the backup to .zip and extract the individual Programs & Samples, then try to load them individually.

Other things to try: switch on/off the memory protection again, re-update the OS... try with a Mac :D

All - thanks for responding. Here is the resolution, which I also included in the OP.

 crazy! At least now you/we know the cause of the issue and that it will be fixed, thanks for sharing the details

I’m having this problem, yet I’ve updated all software (Nord stage 3, computer and Nord Sound Manager) still says operation is not allowed. Any ideas? Trying to restore a backup from June 2019- is that the reason?

UPDATE- getting rid of marimba and vibraphones worked! Thank you!
