And when I get the opportunity to test someone's speakers, much like the Bose mentioned above, I try that compromise between the two.

For my Nord C2D I use a pair of 8” active PA speakers; more than enough for home use. For gigging I add a 12” active sub unit, which makes a convenient stool. MUCH more volume and MUCH better bass response. The sun is the heaviest unit and I can carry it easily. The sound fills a reasonable hall or church.
