Supertramp Logical Wurlitzer

Postby OldTomCat » 03 Jun 2018, 17:06

Can anyone give this old "newbie" some pointers how to create a "Logical Song" sound from the NS3 Wurlitzer presets?
Have followed with interest(and more than a little envy) the very helpful thread on this subject in the NS2 forum(23rd May) and was hoping there might be someone as helpful as StageChris on THIS NS3 forum?

I've built this program – maybe this is helpful. (basically: Wurlitzer 2 XL + chorus + overdrive + mid/high boost)

But i think this version sounded better on NS2 in this thread

nord-stage-2-programs-ns2p-ns2pb-files-f15/supertramp-wurlitzer-t15482.html

"User StageChris" made some recreations, here are his settings:

Sample: Wurlitzer 2 Amped Lrg. 5.3
Volume -4 DB
Effekt: Chorus1 Rate 60 Amount 7,5
EQ: Drive 0 Bass -3,5 Mid Freq. 1,2 kHz Mid +7,4 Treble +6,0 db
Compressor 2,0
Hall: Stage1 4,5

Excerpt from other article:

"Roger Hodgson normally recorded his Wurlitzer 200A electric piano through a Roland Jazz Chorus amplifier. But when Hodgson was recording the keyboard part for “The Logical Song” on Supertramp’s 1979 album Breakfast in America, he fed the output of his Wurlitzer through a DI and then split the signal to a Boss CE-1 Chorus Ensemble pedal to achieve a semi-modulated effect. The Boss CE-1 first was made in 1976 and was based on the chorus circuit of the Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus amplifier, making it a natural choice for Hodgson."

Chris I have just changed keyboards from a Kurzweil to a Nord stage 3.... Any suggestions for SCHOOL
Any chance of a quick setup I could copy?
Totally would be appreciated>
PS.... Love the sound you have for Logical
I also had a sample of the children playing in the school ground but Sound Editor is not available for Stage 3 yet so I am unable to use my wave file. Any suggestions regarding that?
Tks

Editor is fully working on the NS3, it will automatically convert any Nsmp of early versions and converts any Sample Editor file.

It’s still a 2-step process as far as I know. You create samples with Nord Sample Editor, the output is a sample in the “old” .nsmp format. This will be converted into the new .nsmp3 format if you load them into your NS3 with Nord Sound Manager.

Not sure if Sample Editor’s current release converts directly into the new format now, the release I am still using does not (am traveling and therefore cannot check if I have installed the most recent version)
