Notes randomly hitting peak velocity
I think I have a bad unit, going to return it. But does anyone have a NP4 they consider in good working order, where notes jump out at maximum velocity sometimes. I have had this with single notes and clusters. Really disappointed, never had any problems with the Stage range, but recently got a NP4 for a better piano playing experience at home. Surely the keybed should be able to handle any style without problem, I am playing some quite intense stuff, but I've never had any problem with my NS2

Re: Notes randomly hitting peak velocity
Someone posted a video recently that displayed this problem - he had good keyboard technique (which sounds like it may apply to you as well from your description). Someone with more expertise than I responded that the way the triple sensors work may be affected by dirt or other factors. You may want to talk to the shop where you bought it for an assessment - perhaps clean the sensors or even try another unit and see if the issue replicates there. Good luck!

Re: Notes randomly hitting peak velocity
That's me! I'm the user that posted this similar sudden spike in velocity issue. According to the USA distributor for Nord, this is due to debris in between the key sensor. I plan to take it to the shop to have this repaired under warranty. I'll keep you posted on the outcome.
Side note, I replaced the first NP4 I bought from Pro Audio Star (USA) due to the same issue, however the replacement unit had the same problem! The store wouldn't do a second exchange because they assumed I was making false claims. I spoke to the store manager and he was very rude. He said his technician couldn't replicate the issue and blew me off. For all I know, the technician probably played for a couple seconds and called it good. The store is likely resold the faulty unit as an opened-box item. I'm sorry to the buyer of this opened-box item.
Sorry that you're experiencing the same issue, but in a way I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one experiencing this issue. I'm not crazy after all.

Re: Notes randomly hitting peak velocity
It looks like I'm having the same sensor-velocity issue with my new NP4. While playing some quite passages a couple of keys can suddenly "pop". I can not reproduce this 100% of the time but these sensor peaks are pretty consistent across C3-F3. Not sure what to do.

Re: Notes randomly hitting peak velocity
Since your board is new, call your dealer or local Nord support and have it fixed. If it affects a group of adjacent keys, it's another issue than the dust discussed here. It is possible that the keys are sampled in groups, and maybe there is a loose connection in one group or area of keys related to the upper sensor. Thus, it may require a repair visit for your board.zhebrak wrote:It looks like I'm having the same sensor-velocity issue with my new NP4. Re: Notes randomly hitting peak velocity
I experienced, as far as i remember, two notes hitting high velocity when i tried NS3 at the store for an hour (Its only 2 times in entire hour) and also 1-3 times when i played a used NS2 at a seller house, also played for about an hour. Its annoying to think this could happen even if it might not happen often, especially for the price nord asks for the 88 versions. I did not play NP4 much because i am more interesting in the stage line.
I don't think this is something related only to the NP4, i think it might be more of a common thing in all tp40 models.
Maybe how the different tp40 are built make them more prone to notes hitting high velocity (for whatever reason, be it dust or something else)?
Does other manufacturers keybed owners with tp40(whatever tp40 model) also experience notes hitting high velocity more frequently than in other non tp40 keyboards?
My last keyboard that i had for a year, a cheap one, was Casio PX-5S and i don't remember i experienced notes hitting high velocity, not that i would favor it over anything, just saying, sold it because the keybed is just bad and the sounds are just as much, but it did not hit high velocity randomly, at least i don't remember it did.

Re: Notes randomly hitting peak velocity
Ever get that sorted out? Both my NS2EX 88 and my NS3 88 do that. It’ll scare you right out of the moment, won’t it? I had to buy a cheaper 88 key controller bc neither Nord is studio worthy like that.

Re: Notes randomly hitting peak velocity
Can anyone confirm that it does not occur on the Nord Grand?

Re: Notes randomly hitting peak velocity
You first should be happy with your new instrument! One idea is that it has to do with the keybed - the one in the Grand is definitely different from the Stages and Pianos.
