Totally agree with the recommendations to get a good MIDI action and use software pianos if you're looking for the ultimate in studio quality. Or suck it up and try and microphone a live beast. Many have died on that hill. I have a pretty amazing live beast that various folks have tried to record. All have failed.
That being said, I have done a bazillion low-budget recordings with my Nords, and they all sound great to my ears. Not awesome, but great. I show up, plug into the board, and go. No futzing or fiddling, and no drama. Very recordable sounds for many musical styles where the ultimate acoustic piano isn't really part of the agenda.
The recording people say it best: "you're easy".
Re: Nord Grand with Kawai Action
Back to the original topic? It won't be too long before I pick one of these up. Because.
I play behind this vocal duo for one of my groups. Private parties, wedding rehearsals, etc. We get a bunch of quality $$$ gigs because aesthetic matters. Every time we invest in improving our aesthetic appeal, more gigs and more fandom inevitably result.
Reason #1: visual appeal. Put this on the right stand, and it's gonna look killer. Yes, all you black slab folks playing on X stands -- visuals matter if you're performing. You're in the entertainment business, right?
Reason #2. The Kawai action. Haven't played this one, but every other one has been wonderful. Better actions always make me more expressive. Expressive is good, people like it when I do my full thing.
Reason #3. More piano sample memory. That's irrelevant with louder gigs, but for the quiet subtle stuff (if you bring decent amplification!) so much more tasty.
Reason #4. Flat top. I'd love to put a little topper to add some color to the gigs without going all two-tier stand. Maybe my trusty Nord Electro 4D? Still a competent board The NS3C would be dangerous ...
Let's see how long I can resist?

Do we think the NS3C would fit on top of this thing?
That would be killer.
That would be killer.

Re: Nord Grand with Kawai Action
NS3C is 302mm deep
NG is 387mm deep
Doesn't really leave much room for he NS3C, but damn, I'm lovin the idea of the NG + NS3C combination. Best I get saving...

Re: Nord Grand with Kawai Action
You could use the music stand holder to attach a board. That would increase the size to put a second keyboard on it.
