Yamaha HS8 monitors or Line 6 112 PowerCab

Postby taliesin » 29 Jan 2019, 03:28

These are pretty much my 2 options to go with for my stage 3. Any one have experience with these or a suggestion to go with?

The Line 6 is made for Guitar Modeler Amplification. I had a line 6 extension powered 12 and it sounded great for guitar, but it is unsuitable for keyboards in my opinion-

Good point thanks. Saw a few other threads with people saying the hs8s sound great.

Apples & Grapefruits.
I tried a PC with my Axe FX (guitar modeler as mentioned) and even in Flat mode it did not seem flat. I would also say not enough low-end bass if needed for keyboard. I have other FRFR cabs (Atomic CLR Neo & Matrix FR10 & FR12's) and the difference was obvious. It does have more of that guitar amp or even keyboard amp feel.
HS8 is more flat and probably more low-end but adjust on the back for the room. But they are near-field so placement is critical.

So the PC is more like a guitar amp/speaker. You can place them almost anywhere. And more for filling a room with sound.
The HS8 are monitors. Placement effects the sound. But they sound best within a short distance. Not for filling a room.

So the question is really do you need apples or grapefruits? Or pomegranates?

The Yamaha HS7 and 8 sound great for playing at home or in studio. I guess that is your intended use. For playing to an audience, there are much better options...

Have your 8's arrived as yet? If so what are your thoughts.

I have the HS7's, (pretty white ones :D ) and they sound fabulous :). Almost bought the 8's but got the 7's at a price too good to turn down and have been very impressed with their clarity.

I have a pair of HS 8's also. I only have KRK Rockit monitors to compare to, but IMHO they're better than those, much more flat, not so hyped. They're near field monitors, strictly for the studio.

Glad i went with the Yamahas then. I read a few review suggesting the KRK's werent all they were cracked up to be in comparison

After listening to some 7" and 8" studio monitors, I just got the Fluid Audio F5, sounds great despite its more discreet size:

YMMV
