Nord Stage 2 EX - Bug in Synth Section?
Hi, I have got a Nord Stage 2 EX and there is a problem with the synth section. In programs that use samples, when I turn the selector the maximum that it reaches is 128, even when the program has a larger sample. For example, if a program uses sample number 150, you see the number on the screen, and when you rotate it, 128 appears and there is no way to overcome that number, and therefore I can not return to 150. That happens to me sometimes and it is solved by switching off and on again. Does anyone know why this happens to me? I'm afraid it's a bug.

Hm... if that were an OS bug it would happen to everybody.

Obvious but important question: are you on the latest firmware? (You could try re-flashing the firmware too, just in case it's an intermittent memory issue)
Also try backing up, and then fully restoring, all of your samples and programs/presets.
Failing that, contact Nord Tech support (maybe do that in parallel so you can get a head start on troubleshooting). They may have seen this issue before with someone else and have advice on how to pinpoint the issue.

Re: Nord Stage 2 EX - Bug in Synth Section?
Have you tried deleting some samples and reloading them? Perhaps unlikely, but who knows if there is some problem with the file system where these are stored. I also wonder if the "128" (2^7) is relevant here.
As that knob is an encoder, I suppose that sends a +1 and -1 to some accumulator that indexes the files. A defective encoder is unlikely to always stop working at the same location. Most often damaged encoders require several trials to increment/decrement a setting. Perhaps Pablo can suggest something?

In fact, by design, and given that you can scroll to the other 128 locations, it's proof that the encoder itself is not at fault - if it was, you could not easily and individually access the other 128 samples. The fact that it's stopping at 128 - a power of 2 - is interesting, and suggests a memory fault of some kind to me - perhaps a bit that's flaky and returns a 0 when it should return a 1. As Mr. G suggests, reloading the samples (and as I suggested, possibly the entire memory of the unit, depending on where the problem really is) and/or reloading the operating system as a whole (if the bit that's not behaving is in that section of memory) *could* firmly reset that bit to it's proper value so that over time as the machine is powered on, it won't lose it's state.
Otherwise, you're likely looking at a failed memory chip which would mean a board replacement. :-/ Rare, but it does happen. However, the good news is that re-writing that bit has a reasonable chance of success. The only question is finding out which portion of the memory it is in. That's why I suggest contacting tech support, as they'll possibly have a better and more targeted clue as to what to restore, or possibly even they have some internal test sequences you can run to pinpoint the problem directly.

Hi there, just checked with my Stage 2EX: I got 190 samples i memory, and I can scroll thru the hole list without issues here. Have tried checking the list of samples if you start Nord sound manager? Maybe the program using the sample is loaded in your Stage 2EX, but not all the samples?

Re: Nord Stage 2 EX - Bug in Synth Section?
Thank you all for your answers. I deleted some samples I had loaded and left the ones that came from the factory. As the problem doesn't always happen, I dont know if it has been fixed. In any case I will ask the technical service. I'll tell you ...
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
