Gear alert: the next thing in band sound?
I am now the Official Sound Guy for all the bands I play in. I bring the gear, we find someone else to run the dials. I couldn't be happier.
In that vein, might I introduce a new offering for those of you who have to bring their own PA to gigs? Errr, that might be me?
RCF (whose products I generally respect), appears to want to get aggressive in this segment, especially in the USA. OK, RCF, what do you have?
The EVOX J8. There's also a version with a built-in mixer that's not my thing.
This is a spectacular piece of gear for mid-sized gigs. Indoors or outdoors. WAY overkill for keyboard folks looking for stage amplification. Even by my egregious standards. Although part of me fantasizes about showing up to a casual gig with a pair of these babies.
Lots to like here. The line array thingie on top is amazing, powered by RCF DSP magic juju. Can't explain it, but the tops are these awesome radiating beacons, beaming high-def sound to everyone's ears. Same reaction when I first heard the Bose L1 Model II, although a completely different product.
The subs below are impressive as well.
Packaging is clever. Setup is minimal, a bit less than the usual subs-and-sticks thing. I've had this rig out about a half-dozen times. Every time, sounds amazing. Every time, people asking me about them. If you're in the USA, call around, don't pay list.
Cheers!

Hi, are you an unofficial or official RCF salesman ?

I ended up really liking a few of their products. Just the same as Nord.

I've been using LD Systems Maui 28's for my mid and large sized gigs for the past years. I like them much better than Bose; they have more bottom end and clarity. They also have the Maui 5's for keyboard amplification and smaller gigs.

What´s your experience with using these in pairs/stereo set-up?cphollis wrote:

The Bose system is not very useful for such use.

Re: Gear alert: the next thing in band sound?
We take a pair of the J8s to modest sized gigs, and also use outdoors for small festivals and similar. I like the way the small line arrays sound and project, and there's lots of tight bass from the sub. Like you said, the Bose L1 is not very useful for those situations. Everyone who hears them makes positive comments. They can get loud, but not fearsomely so. 1400 "marketing watts" each.

You know Chuck, every time you talk about a new piece of equipment, my wallet cries just a little bit.
