Looping Nord drum 3p

Post by sepetov »

Hello
What would be the best way to loop and play on top of each layer without loosing quality.
Does the ipad app Nord beat 2 compatible with Norddrum3p? Can i loop and play at the same time?
Or i should use a looper like boss rc50 to make loops?
Pls advice

So the Nord beat app does the job of a looper? I don't have to buy a boss looper?? I just want to be sure if the app loops the things I play repetitively on 3 or 4 layers.

Hi sepetov,

The Nord Beat app is a step sequencer, so you can program a drum pattern and loop it. With the app you can't record MIDI notes that you play on your 3p live, but a pattern is setup in no time, and adapted quickly.. The disadvantage of a MIDI solution may be that it triggers notes on the Nord Drum, leaving perhaps a little less room (polyphony) for live playing the Nord Drum yourself on top of the loop, depending how many notes and channels you use for the loop/pattern. There is no sound degradation though as each note is produced by the Nord Drum itself. The other advantage is that the loop will be very accurate, no timing errors.

With a looping pedal you can record audio from your 3p, and then loop it, you can start and stop recording, and in this way determine the length of the loop, all with your foot. The disadvantage is that it may require some skill to make a good and working loop without timing errors. The advantage is that you can layer and go beyond the polyphony /the 6 voices of the Nord Drum, and you are fully free to play any notes on top of the loop. I don't know the audio quality of these pedals though.

Cheers,
Albert

The Future Artist MIDI Looper looks interesting. I haven't tried it myself, though...

It would definitely be lossless, since it's looping MIDI, not audio. :-)
