Deactivating Velocity on piano sounds.

Postby Mac Gregor » 06 Dec 2018, 13:52

Hi guys.

I'm playing a pop-track, where the piano-sound is deliberately un-dynamic.
I'd like to experiment with the track by not having velocity-dynamics on my piano sound?
Is this achievable on the NS3?

Best Regards.

Hi, not achievable 100% from its own keyboard (you may do that with an external MIDI keyboard set to a FIXED velocity or putting NS in Local off and looping back its MIDI data via a computer or MidiSolutions Velocity/Event Processor that modifies the velocity to a fixed value) but if you use the higher setting of Dynamics (3) you get pretty close.

Another idea (probably the best/easier): use a piano sample in the Synth section https://www.nordkeyboards.com/sound-lib ... -30/pianos ;-)

One other possibility: when I use my Electro 3 as a MIDI controller for a Roland synth module, and my Electro 3 is set to an Organ sound, this changes the keyboard dynamics the signals it sends to its MIDI out. You mention you have Nord Lead 4 - which does have a MIDI out jack. You could experiment with picking different sounds on your Nord Lead 4, and see if choosing any of those causes it to change the velocity dynamics of the keyboard signals it sends over MIDI, and then set up your Stage to use an external MIDI keyboard.

Why not just compress the heck out of the piano? This would squash dynamics, but still allow for some timbral variation from note-to-note... or does it need to be devoid of all expression, too?
