Re: NS3 Compact with SL73 midi controller - distorted piano
This problem was caused by a bug in OS v1.52. I have upgraded to 1.60 and the SL73 now sounds exactly like the Nord on the “Normal” velocity curve (on MIDI channel 16). No adjustments required.

Glad to hear that it’s fixed! I’ve been thinking of getting the SL73 and would like to know what your thoughts are in relation to using it with a NS3.

I'm using the SL88 and I am very pleased with the velocity response... This setup helps make any of the Rhodes or Wurlies sound more "alive".

Re: NS3 Compact with SL73 midi controller - distorted piano
I’ve only had both the NS3-C and the SL73 for a few weeks, but I love the SL73 (maybe a little more than the Nord). It sounds and plays great with the Nord. The piano sounds come to life a little more using a weighted key controller.
You may want to play the SL73 and the SL88 before making a decision. I believe the 88 has a true “acoustic grand” weighted hammer action. The SL73 has a weighted hammer action, but feels like it has a little shorter key depth than an acoustic grand. For my style of playing (rock and southern rock piano) the SL73 is great and I love the portability and weight. If I were setting up a more permanent solution in my studio, not a gigging rig, I may go for the 88. But so far, I love the SL73 with the Nord. My first gig with the new rig is this Saturday. I’ll report back after that.

Why dont you update to v1.60? It would fix that bug.

Re: NS3 Compact with SL73 midi controller - distorted piano
Thank you for your feedback and I will do my best to try out both. At Studio Logic's website it looks like the StudioLogic 73 and 88 share the same Fatar keybed (the TP/100R), so I'm hoping that the key depth is the same in both. The StudioLogic SL88 Grand has the TP/40WOOD action, but I'm not interested in that because of the weight. Looking at the overall dimensions in the manual, it appears to me the key depth between the 73 and 88 might be the same (going from the overall dimensions in the far back of the manual - page 68), but nothing beats trying them out, to be absolutely sure. I don't mind taking two or even three keyboards to a gig, especially when the keyboards are 25 pounds or less, and are short enough to maneuver around quick-closing doors. So the SL73 and NS3C could be ideal.

The SL73 does look interesting, especially at the price. There’s nothing else like this available as far as I know.
I wonder how it plays with an Integra 7.

Re: NS3 Compact with SL73 midi controller - distorted piano
You are correct. I was thinking of the SL88 Grand with the wood keys and different action. The more 8 play the SL73, the more I like it. I played a gig last Saturday and my fingers were flying. Very fast response and great piano feel.Murphy wrote:Thank you for your feedback and I will do my best to try out both.
