Electro 6 C4 problem

Post by hexatonix6 »

The C4 (fourth from the bottom) does not sound for the piano. It does sound for the sample synth but with much softer and with no velocity sense. It also sounds for the organ section. Unit is 3 mos. old. Pain in the butt to gig with, any suggestions? thanks

Ahhhh, the dreaded Nord dirty contact problem. You'll have to have the key contact (velocity sensor) cleaned. Doubtful it needs replacement this soon. This requires an almost complete disassembly of the unit. Surprising that it's happened after only three months. I had the same problem multiple times after about a year's use of my E4. There is something inherently wrong with the Fatar keybeds IMO. I've never had problems with Roland or Yamaha keybeds even after, in some cases, decades of hard use. You're under warranty so bring it in. When this happens organ will always work (doesn't use velocity sensing) but piano will be soft with limited velocity sensing or not play at all. Good luck!

Why a Nord repair person ?

An "all synths" technician will do the job. This is a common issue with a lot of different brands.

You can watch this, the interesting part does start at 17'40:

Thanks Push-Pull/and Zach for posting.
This is why I love this forum ! DIY Solutions.
( Though, "Synth technicians " would likely lose a fair chunk of their repair/maintenance business).
And... on a plus side, many keyboards will remain in good use for much longer!
Al.

With a 3 month old Nord, it's certainly a warranty issue, so I think you do wanna find the Nord repair center. Or address the shop you bought it from.

Dirty after 3 months...? :wtf:
If given the option to replace the whole unit I'd have it replaced.
