Nord Piano 2 has never sounded great

Postby Kevonthebay » 11 Oct 2018, 02:35

Since purchasing my Nord Piano 2 about 5 years ago, I’ve been very disappointed in the sound to the point that I was planning to sell it before my next gig. Whoever, when I put my headphone into the jack and not use the output jacks; the board has the sound that I thought that I sampled in the store. I’ve used multiple amps and powered speakers, but no success. Can someone help?

I see this is your first post, so welcome to the forum!

There are lots of threads discussing amplification - have you tried the QSC K8.2 that so many on the forum recommend?
At home I use Yamaha HS-7 - They work OK, I especially like the sound of the Bøsendorfer. When I bring my own amp I use the SpaceStation SS3 - good on organ, not so good on pianos - I would have bought the QSC today.

Hope you find something that sounds good for your pianos...

Are you playing stereo or mono through your PA? Makes a big difference for the sound you get.

I just got my band to switch over to IEMs for partly this reason.

Running your keys through FOH in stereo will make a huge difference as noted.

Yes, for monitoring, IEM (fed a stereo signal of your own keys) are hard to beat!

Well, my NP2 always sounds great, and I am one picky customer. Of course, it takes money and patience to craft the right solution for you, since everyone is different. IEMs are good advice, as are decent stage monitors. If you're insane like me, you take it all the way through to FOH and mixing the band. It's not cheap and it's not easy ... but the results can be spectacular.
I think I have gear issues ....
